Who can believe that we are already at the end of the year? What another big year 2023 has been at Scotsburn! Each and every student at the campus has so much to celebrate, and as a staff, we couldn’t be prouder. As always at this time of the year, we would like to take this time to thank the whole Scotsburn community for your support throughout the entire year, it has been a real team effort. We have a few more big celebrations coming up in the next week to commemorate the year, culminating with our big Scotsburn Christmas Concert next Monday - we can’t wait!

Thanks again to everyone and we hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break!

Scotsburn Sleepover

What an incredible event the sleepover was! Being able to share a night with the whole campus was an incredible experience that I am sure all students will not forget quickly. The outdoor movie theatre was most definitely a highlight! We were all so proud of the community vibe that all the students helped to create. A massive thank you to all staff involved, including Mitch, Ana and Liz who slept over, as well as Kirsty, Raquel and Gaye who went over and above with their assistance both on Thursday night and Friday morning. We are sure that everyone slept well on Friday night!

School Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews

Hopefully everyone had a chance to have a read through your child’s report over the weekend. A reminder that if you haven’t yet, they are able to be downloaded off Compass. Last night we held the first of our Parent Teacher interview night, with the second being tomorrow afternoon. These interviews provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the wonderful achievements and progress of each child, as well as discuss some learning goals for the future. If you would still like to book in a time and you haven’t yet, please speak to your child’s teacher.

A reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday 13th December) is a 1pm finish for students due to the interviews.

Specialist Interviews

Just a reminder that Liz and Rachel are at Scotsburn for interviews on Wednesday 13th of December only

Scotsburn 2023 Farewells

As the year at Scotsburn draws to a close, it is time to farewell a very big piece of the Scotsburn family. Due to our change in structure in 2024, we say farewell to Mitch Walsh. Although Mitch has only been with us for one year, he has made such an impact on the community and it feels like he has been here forever. His warmth and genuine care for each and every student at the campus will be missed so dearly. We thank you Mitch for everything that you have done for all students at Scotsburn, and we wish you well in the new year.

Across the week, we will be making some special presentations to Mitch, including at our Christmas Concert next Monday afternoon.

Scotsburn DASH Day

The Scotsburn Dash Day that was held yesterday was a roaring success. Students and staff did not let the weather dampen their spirits, participating in mural painting, cubby building, and drumming workshops. The student led day focussed on Community and the themes of Respect, Inclusion and Diversity. These values shone out throughout the day and once again created a wonderful community vibe. Well done to the SC3 “Run for Rights” team (Josh, Jack, Bethany, Kahlan, Mia, Savannah and Harry) for coming up with such a wonderful idea and helping to coordinate the day. What a brilliant example of student voice and agency in action!

Water fight Postponed

As you are all aware, due to the poor weather yesterday we unfortunately had to postpone our water fight. The date that works for all students now will be next Tuesday 19th December. We have scheduled it from 11:30am - 1pm. We know this is Graduation day for our Grade 6s, however having the water fight finish at 1pm, will give our Grade 6s the afternoon to prepare for Graduation.

Please make sure to have a good read of the newsletter tomorrow on Compass, as there will be a lot of information and reminders about our busy week coming up.

Scotsburn 2024 Orientation Day

Today we held our 2024 Orientation Day at Scotsburn. Students at the Scotsburn Campus spent the whole day with their 2024 classmates and teachers (including the new preps), participating in a range of transition activities to assist with getting ready and settled for the new year. There was certainly plenty of excitement around the campus, and we know students can’t wait to begin their new classes in 2024.

Scotsburn Christmas Shared Lunch

Thursday 14th December

As has been tradition at Scotsburn in recent years, we will hold a Christmas Shared Lunch at the Campus on Thursday 14th December. Students will not be required to bring lunch on this day, as a full Christmas lunch will be provided for the students to eat together. If there are any dietary requirements for your child, please see your child’s teacher.

We are asking for some parent volunteers on this day to assist with preparing and serving the food. If you are able to assist for an hour or so, please let your child’s teacher know.

There is no cost to families for this day - it is our gift for a wonderful year!

Scotsburn Pool Fun Day

Friday 15th December

A reminder that our pool day is on Friday 15th December, between 12:30pm – 2:30pm. We will be heading off to Fed Uni Pool to participate in a variety of pool activities. Students will then be treated to some pizza for lunch. If there are any dietary requirements for your child, please see your child’s teacher.

Student will need to bring to school bathers, a towel and some goggles.

Please remember to provide consent and payment for your child to attend on Compass.

End of Year Scotsburn Christmas Concert and Picnic

Monday 18th December - 2pm - 4pm

We are now getting very close to our end of year celebrations. If you didn’t receive information notes about our Christmas concert, please check Compass and/or contact your child’s teacher. These notes have some very important information regarding the running of the event.

Just a reminder that Santa will be visiting and we will need all of  Santa’s helpers to assist us with this! Please see the earlier Compass message if you are unsure about this process or please see a staff member if you need help in arranging for this to happen.

Grade 6 Graduation

Tuesday 19th December, Buninyong Campus - 6pm - 9pm

Next Tuesday, our graduating Grade 6 students will join the Buninyong campus Grade 6 students for their Graduation night. We wish them all the best in their last week of primary school. All of our Grade 6s have done a marvellous job leading the campus and have left a lasting impression on the campus.

Last Day of School Reminder

Wednesday 20th December

This year the last day of school is Wednesday 20th December. As we did last year, we will start the morning at the Buninyong Campus for the whole school assembly. Our Grade 6 leaders will be presenting at assembly as well as many other end of year celebrations. As it is a 1.30pm finish, we will spend the entire day at Buninyong, so please remember pick up arrangements will be at Buninyong. We will meet parents and carers in the courtyard at 1.15pm for a final campus farewell. If your child is planning to give any cards or presents at the end of the year to friends, It may be easier to do this by Tuesday 19th, as this will be our last day at the Scotsburn Campus for 2023.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

It is certainly starting to look like Christmas is around the corner! We had two visitors arrive last week by the name of Snowy and Twinkles. These two cheeky elves are spending some time in SC1 looking at all the great learning that is going on.

In Spelling, we have focused on all the different spellings for the sound /o/. Although tricky, students are picking up on the spelling and transferring the learning into both their reading and writing. We have some great little learners in SC1! In Writing, we have been busy finishing off our Poetry books. We look forward to sharing these with you all soon. Maths has been very fun and entertaining, learning about Chance and Probability. What is the chance of us having heavy rain in the second week of summer? Very high according to the weather bureau.

Our campus sleepover was a huge success and each student needs to be congratulated for the excitement they brought along and for being so brave. It is such a wonderful experience and I know many students remember the sleepover as one of their fondest primary school memories.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents for their support and kindness throughout the year. We are so lucky to have parents who are so dedicated,  supportive, and approachable. You make our job such a rewarding experience and it is a pleasure working with your children.

Many thanks.

Ana and Kirsty.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

It’s starting to feel a little bit like Christmas! Plenty of positive vibes radiating throughout the entirety of SC2. With so much happening around the campus at the moment, it is important to note the gratitude and level of respect that has been shown by all students.

The campus sleepover on Thursday night was a great reminder and a true display of the wonderful community that we have here at Scotsburn. From students being aware of their peers and their bedtime routines, to the parents who volunteered to help, or simply popped in to be a part of what was something very special.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every family for your tireless support of not only your child, but myself throughout 2023. There has been an overwhelming amount of support since I have come up to Scotsburn. The communication, generosity and kindness has been like nothing I have seen. So thank you. I am sad to not be directly involved with this wonderful community next year, however I look forward to keeping tabs on all of the great things that I know will be happening.

For anyone that I do not get a chance to reach out to between now and next Wednesday, have a safe and relaxing Christmas!

Mitch

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Our last full week of school is here and we can’t believe it! SC3 have continued to complete some finishing off tasks, including our memoirs and our maths golf courses. Plenty of concert and Graduation practice are also happening, with the performances coming along nicely. Our Grade 5s are also having a great time on their Passion Projects, learning a new skill. This week, they will present what they have learned throughout the project.

The sleepover last week was a tremendous success, with the senior students taking a lead role in the event. All SC3 students should be very proud of how they role modelled expected behaviours throughout. Well done.

Thanks again to each and every family with the SC3 family. The support and collaboration that both the classroom and the campus are provided with is truly an amazing thing. With such a big cohort of Grade 6s this year, there is a mixture of sadness and excitement, and I know they will all be heading off to wonderful adventures - the world is your oyster!

Well done everyone and have an amazing summer break!

Specialist News

Wow what a busy year we have had in Specialists! I would like to thank all of Scotsburn’s amazing artists and Japanese language learners for their wonderful efforts this year. It was so great to look back on all of our awesome work together when putting together snippets for our school magazine, hopefully you all get a chance to see this and reflect back on your fabulous work.

                                 SC3 Japanese Video

Please use the above link to enjoy a video of SC3 presenting their Cup Noodle projects to the class, we haven't shared a Japanese video in a while! I’m hoping to finish editing a Japanese video for SC2 and SC1 also this week, so keep an eye out on Compass for these.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
