The School Improvement Team met with each classroom teacher to analyse the student data that we have collected since the start of the school year. We collaborated on best practices, strategies, planned interventions and extensions to meet individual student needs. This is such an important piece of our work and the shared understanding and knowledge around the table each time was amazing.
The Preps have recently participated in an Author Study and taken an enchanted journey into the imaginative world of one of the most beloved children's authors, Julia Donaldson! Different staff members visited the Preps to read their favourite Julia Donaldson stories. Students listened to the story of a beautiful mermaid and her time in the circus in The Singing Mermaid, had a flying broomstick adventure with the kind witch in Room on the Boom and searched the jungle to help a little monkey in Monkey Puzzle. What a lovely way to begin the year and ignite a love of reading.
We integrate digital technology into our classes to compliment and enhance our learning. Students love using programs like Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds, unlocking a whole new realm of learning possibilities.
Public demonstration site
The public demonstration tests show the types of questions students will answer and the functionalities that are available in NAPLAN tests.
Students can do the standard tests or they can do a test with accessible alternative items:
To try the demonstration tests, clink this link and use the buttons below to choose a year level and then a NAPLAN domain: writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) or numeracy. Please note that answers are not provided. As all Year 3 students complete the writing test on paper, there is no Year 3 writing demonstration test.
For all online tests, once ‘finish’ is selected or time has run out, the student’s responses will be submitted and will no longer be able to be viewed.
There is now a narrative task and a persuasive task for students to practise. Only one of these tasks will be tested each year, and this will be revealed on the day of the assessment.
Students will now start the conventions of language test with the spelling items and finish with the grammar and punctuation items.
There are now different narrator voices for the audio items. Some students may benefit from listening to the voice change from one item to another. They can do so by listening to the numeracy items or the audio dictation items in the conventions of language tests.
The NAPLAN timetable at OLA is as follows:
As a school, we then have until 25 March to catch up on any missed assessments. Given we have such a large period of time to catch up missed tests, please don't feel the need to send your child to school if they're not feeling well on the day of a test. We can administer any missed assessments at a later date.
