Software Design & Development
About 16 students, along with Mr Kroek, Ms Ostler and Ms Webber, went to Griffith to the City Bowling Alley and Laser Tag.
Students were spoken to by Zac, one of the staff members in charge of the Information Technology at the Ten Pin and Laser Tag, who explained how the systems work and how their operations are dependent on the computer system and software that they are running.
Students were taken behind the scenes of the Ten Pin Bowling to see how the physical setting of the pins are operated by the systems and the communication connections required for the sensors and scoring to work effectively. Students asked questions to answer their work booklets about these two activities.
Students then played 2 games of Ten Pin Bowling before having pizza for lunch. Students were seen frantically writing answers in their booklet at lunch to make sure the got the best out of the information that was discussed and experienced. Commendation to Mr Kroek for his 197 in Ten Pin!
Zac then took us to the Laser tag, where Mr Kroek assured me that students would be “tagged”. Zac explained about the software system that relates to the laser tag and how it operates. Students then experienced the Laser Tag system. Unfortunately, Mr Kroek wasn’t on the winning team.
We headed back to school about 1:40pm with the song (supplied by Mr Kroek) “Country Roads”.
All students were able to see “Real Life Technology” through this experience.
