Welcome to Term One 2024!

Things have got off to a fantastic start in the music centre. Students have been excellent checking when their lesson is on Compass and turning up to ensemble rehearsals.

All existing student’s lessons have started as have all the senior and intermediate ensembles. This year music lessons will be for a whole session rather than half a session. Because of this, lessons are generally in a group.

This year we are excited to have year 9 and 10 music electives on the school curriculum. The year 10 class is running this Semester and the year 9 elective will run in Semester 2.

Student Music leaders

Each year the music department calls for applications for the following student leader positions: Music Captains (2), Strings Leader, Concert Band leader and Swing Band Leader. Generally, these positions are for senior students. Applicants are required to write a short paragraph on why they think they would be good in that position. Applications are due Monday 12th February 8:30 am.

New Music Students

To fit in with the year 7 camp we have moved the instrumental music information evening to Wednesday 14th February. This will be at 5.30 pm -6.30 pm in Malgobila (Orange Building). This event will start with a brief presentation on how the music program operates. Students will then have the opportunity, with their families to meet teachers and students, look at all the instruments available and sign up to the program.

Please note we are not offering guitar lessons to new students this year and would encourage students interested in guitar to come along and see what other options there are.

Once new students have signed up they will be allocated to a teacher and placed in a group. Lessons for those students will start in week 4.

Any questions about the Instrumental Music Program can be directed to Mrs Kim Green in the music centre (Monday-Thursday).
