ECO TOWER

Our year 8 Business students have been exploring the characteristics, skills and mindset that make a successful entrepreneur. They have identified business scenarios that require pushing through obstacles and challenges, having an open mind, using critical thinking, and being resilient when times get tough.

This week, students were set a challenge; to design an observation tower for Parks Australia that will enable visitors to enjoy the beautiful view while minimising damage to the natural environment. Working in groups of 3-4, students had 15 minutes to create prototypes of their towers, using limited materials and following a strict set of rules. Our winning team’s observation desk represented by a pompom, rose 86cm above the table top, unassisted.

After the challenge, teams reflected on how they applied fundamental enterprising skills such as teamwork, creativity, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving to the task.

The experience made one thing very clear… we have a group of budding entrepreneurs on our hands!
