COURAGE TO CARE DELIVERS UPSTANDER EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT BRIGHTON SECONDARY COLLEGE

By Mike Zervos OAM CEO Courage to Care

Courage to Care was invited by Acting Principal Leisa Higgins and the Brighton Secondary College leadership team to deliver our Upstander Education program to all teachers and staff at Brighton Secondary College.

We have an ongoing partnership with your school as part of our overall relationship with the Department of Education that spans more than twenty years. In fact, we expect to reach close to 20,000 students with our programs in 2024 all across Victoria, including all Brighton Secondary College students across all year levels  in March this year.

Courage to Care is an educational charity that believes that ordinary people have the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others by being Upstanders. Inspired by real-life extraordinary acts of courage, our Upstander Programs empower participants to make a real difference in their community by standing up and taking action. We provide practical tools and strategies on how to safely counter the threats of bullying and discrimination, including racism and antisemitism, in the schoolyard, workplace, and in our communities.

As a Brighton local myself, I was delighted to see the school so proactively embracing our upstander message.

The feedback from our volunteers has been very positive and they are looking forward to providing our programs to your students in March.

We are aiming to Create a generation of Upstanders
