Year 1/2

This term in Spanish, we have been focusing on procedural text, specifically recipes. We started by learning the necessary vocabulary related to the topic: cooking verbs, food vocabulary, and utensil vocabulary. Rob and Sergio have captured our students' attention and enchanted them with a song and video posted on Seesaw. I’d like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to Rob for once again impressing the students with a catchy song. If you haven’t listened to it yet, we recommend jumping on Seesaw to find it.

After reinforcing their vocabulary, your students began to learn about the structure of a procedural text. They were encouraged to write their own recipe for ´´espaguetis locos´´ and ´´batidos´´. The recipe ideas that our students have come up with are just breathtaking.

Stay tuned, familia! Our students are about to surprise us with something fun. Seesaw will showcase some high-quality learning experiences!!!!!

In Mathematics, we have been learning and extending our concepts on multiplication and division. Our collective lessons included hands-on activities where our students had the opportunity to manipulate concrete materials to represent division and multiplication effectively. Among the strategies that we covered, arrays, skip counting, repeated addition and subtraction, equal groups, number lines, and predictions were used at the tables in order to complete the Builders activities.

English

This term in Writing, our Year 1/2 students are diving into persuasive writing, which they are really enjoying. We’ve brainstormed ideas about things we want to change, and now the students are busy crafting persuasive letters. We’re very impressed with some of the ideas they’ve come up with and how much their handwriting and writing stamina have improved. They’re excited to show them off to you this Friday!

In reading, our students are having a blast learning new reading strategies during our novel study of The BFG, which they are absolutely loving! We've been working on making connections, using prior knowledge, predicting, visualising, and summarising. Additionally, we are exploring persuasive texts like letters, speeches, and advertisements, focusing on the key features and purposes of these texts while questioning the author's intent.

In Year 1/2 for The Code, we have been exploring different sounds in words, focusing on the /air/, /ou/, /oi/, and /ay/ sounds. The students are learning about the various spelling patterns that create these sounds, helping to strengthen their reading and writing skills.

Over the next week, we will be focusing on the /ie/ and /ee/ sounds, helping students identify and practice the different spelling patterns for these sounds.
