Species Survival: More than just sustainability

We have had lots of fun during our lunchtime activities this week to celebrated Science week and it's theme of species survival.

On Tuesday, students came and enjoyed a peaceful time learning about endangered species, completing our wordsearch and colouring in competition whilst listening to the calming rainforest meditation music.

On Wednesday, students learned about the types of possums we have in Australia and the need for old growth tree hollows for their habitat. Students took part in a possum box design and discussed how this can help possums who have lost their habitat due to deforestation and urbanisation.

On Thursday, students collaboratively made a Science Week Mural, highlighting some endangered species as well as providing some useful tips on things you can do to help. These included donating money to a trusted organisation, planting native plats in your garden and picking up rubbish at the creek. Check out this amazing mural that is now displayed in the STEAM room window.

Next week, we will be completing the science week activities with a species scavenger hunt and a school clean up.

I would like to give a big shout out to our STEAM and Sustainability leaders Violet and Ali, along with their friends Maya, Martina and Alessia. They came up with each of the activities themselves, put together all of the resources, designed the mural and gave up multiple lunchtimes to get it all organised. They have been great examples of what our school leaders can achieve and have shown our school values of responsibility, care and creativity.  Also, thanks to Mel for supervising and supporting the lunch time activities.
