Outside School Hours Care
Term 3, Week 5 2024
Last week we followed on from our Europe week with a topic we were not expecting !! There was a lot of conversation amongst our children about family members who lived in Europe. Several of our children were lucky enough to have visited family not only in Europe but all around the world and it led us to the topic of modes of transport.
Of course the week before we had a full pretend play session about being in an aeroplane ! We had pilots, co pilots, air stewards, grumpy passengers and even security - it was interesting to say the least.
We started the week building a town and highway. Lenni Walton was our main town planner and with help from Cooper, Samuel and Jayden. Before long a whole town was constructed with bike lanes, pedestrian crossings, very congested freeways to the neighbouring town and so much more. Poppy H selected all the matchbox cars and helped Lenni organise the transport and lanes on the freeway. Anae, Eliza and Poppy M enjoyed playing with the set up the team had created. We had lots of fun making teddy bear cars in Cooking on Wednesday. Rose helped Heather set up the activity and led the group with clear instructions on how to construct their Teddy bear cars ..... Definitely a teacher in the making.
We also had fun with a boat float experiment and our paper plane competition.
We have had science experiments galore this week and had fun hypothesising what might happen and why !
Some of the experiments included Button towers, Make your own butter, celery science, fireworks in a jar, magnifying glass cookies and so much more.
We were lucky enough to get to join in on Wednesday with Cam from Green hat on the parent afternoon where the children were so excited to show us what they had been able to create in their class sessions.
We had an extreamly messy pretend play on Tuesday where we were lab technicians conducting experiments. It really has been a fun week.
Next week is book week and the school will be having lots of activities planned with read a thons and the book fair. We have actually chosen to continue our science activities and focus on the theme of this years science week. Protecting endangered species. So next week is all about animal conservation, biology and life cycles.
Planning is almost complete for our Spring Vacation Care program.
In the next Newsletter we will have the program flyer and also all our open and closure dates from the end of term 3 right through to Term 1 2025 !!!!!!!
