This week, we celebrated National Science Week! It was great to see students develop an awareness of cooking as a science. One of the senior students' main lessons was the difference between cooked and uncooked rice. The classes did not believe that 3 cups of uncooked rice would provide enough food for the whole class, but once cooked, we all enjoyed seconds!
For our flourless chocolate cake, students separated eggs and whisked the egg whites to soft white peaks. Although the whole egg was used in the cake, it was a great experience to discuss how the properties of the egg whites change and the reason for adding volume to the cake without using any raising agents.
If you have any small (even tiny) jars, we would love them, please!
This term, we would love to welcome helpers into our Kitchen Garden program to maximise the experience and learning outcomes.
In order to volunteer, you will need to hold a current Working With Children Check, and sign a code of conduct at the office.
Morning block classes run from 9am - 11am.
Middle block classes run from 11:40am - 1:40pm.
If you are interested, please get in touch with Miss Pia Macris (Monday and Tuesday classes), or Mrs Nicole Quanchi (Wednesday and Friday classes).

Finally, our weather is starting to warm up and it's exciting to see blossoms and flowers appearing in our garden.
This week in the garden we have been discovering and creating our own worm habitats. We made our worm farms from recycled bottles and sourced all our other materials from our kitchen garden. Our habitats had to include shelter, food, water and air.
We know that worms are great for our garden and provide our soil with rich fertiliser, so in the coming weeks we will visit our worm farms and see all the trails they have made.
Our Preps enjoyed discovering all the stages of a worms life cycle, from cocoon to baby worms, adult worms & pregnant worms.
Ruby and Jude enjoying some relaxing time in the sun and once the bell sounded she stayed on to enjoy more sun.
Happy Winter Gardening
