ONE IN THREE CHILDREN NOT MEETING READING AND WRITING STANDARDS

Today, I'd like to refer you to what was published in the media about Australia's standards in the area of literacy yesterday.

Whilst, as the article points out, this is sobering data; what is exciting is the call to action at a systemic level.

You would have read a lot about MACS Vision for Instruction which is changing the way schools teach. It is evidence based and research backed. A synthetic phonics approach to the teaching of reading has been adopted system wide and has been mandated for all State primary schools from 2025.

I am pleased to say that we are one of the schools under the MACS system to be leading the change and having already implemented a synthetic phonics approach in our junior year levels.

I am excited for the future of St Michael's students and proud of our teachers for adopting the changes and trailing new approaches.
