Visual Arts
The Art Room has been a hub of creativity this term, with students exploring and expressing their artistic talents in full bloom!
Prep ST/AW: The students explored their imaginations by drawing unique creatures using a combination of lines and shapes. They created a stunning resist effect by painting watercolours over oil pastels. Primary, secondary, and contrasting colours were used to bring their imaginative creatures to life.
Grade 1GJ/1SH: Our young artists learned to draw and decorate sailboats using the elements of line, shape, pattern, space, and colour. They crafted backgrounds featuring setting suns, moons, and clouds, and filled their boats with vibrant paint. The focus was on integrating many lines and shapes into their designs while exploring primary and secondary colours.
Grade 2AP/2TN: Inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, students designed mixed media gumball machines. They were introduced to the art elements of line, shape, space, texture, and colour. Their detailed gumball machines were painted using a variety of colours, including primary, secondary, and fluorescent, making their creations pop!
Grade 3AJ/3EN/3JA: Students delved into Indian culture by drawing intricately decorated camels. They incorporated line, shape, space, pattern, and colour into their work. The focus was on filling the camels with detailed patterns and using watercolours in the background to create a striking contrast.
Grade 4AS/4EK: Inspired by Greek art, students drew majestic Pegasus complete with wings. They mastered the use of line, shape, space, pattern, texture, and colour, and painted their Pegasus using bright, colourful watercolours, showcasing their ability to handle watercolours effectively.
Grade 5DG/5ME: Inspired by Henri Rousseau’s seascapes, our Grade 5 students learned to draw ships. They focused on the art elements of line, shape, space, pattern, texture, value, and colour. Through painting, they explored tints and contrast by adding white to colours, creating dynamic skies and rain scenes that highlighted the contrast of light and dark.
Grade 6AA/6CB/6JE: Our senior students delved into portraiture, taking inspiration from Pablo Picasso. They learned to draw portraits with correct proportions that expressed a chosen emotion. Using lines, shapes, and colours in both the portrait and background, they vividly conveyed emotions. Watercolours were used to add depth and vibrancy to their expressive portraits.
We are proud of the creativity and hard work our students have demonstrated this term! Stay tuned for more artistic adventures in the future.
