Principal's Views
Dear Epping Views Community,
As we move through Week 7 of Term 3, I am pleased to share a snapshot of recent events, important reminders, and exciting upcoming activities at Epping Views Primary School.
Recent Events:
Book Week
Book Week was a hit this year, highlighted by our vibrant Character Parade! Students came dressed as their favourite book characters, showcasing their creativity and love for reading. The parade was a fantastic display of imagination and enthusiasm. A special thanks to Ed for organising such a memorable event and to all the parents and carers who supported their children in preparing their costumes and attending the Character Parade. Thank you to the Book Week Team for coordinating the virtual Author visits that were very well attended.
Year 2 Dinner & Disco
Our Year 2 students had a blast at their Dinner & Disco event! The evening was filled with laughter, dancing, and delicious food. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to socialize and create lasting memories. Thank you to our Year 2 teachers who made this event so special.
EVPS Singing Group
Our EVPS Singing Group has been busy preparing for their upcoming performance at Lalor North Secondary College's “Music Festival”. They have been practicing diligently and are sounding fantastic, building their confidence at a recent live performance when they visited Epping Views Kinder. We’re excited to see them continue to showcase their talents.
School Savings Bonus
Included in this newsletter is important information about the School Saving Bonus. The $400 School Saving Bonus will provide families with support for education-related costs, such as school activities and/or school uniforms.
Hats are Back!
A reminder that students require their school hat in line with our School Sun Protection Policy Please support your child to have their hat every day and ensure it clearly labelled with their name. Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothing or hats will be asked to use available areas of shade when outdoors or a suitable area protected from the sun.
Important Reminder: Contacting Students through the School Fence/Gates
We would like to remind all parents and carers to please contact the school office with any messages for their child, rather than approaching students through the school fence or gates. For security and safety reasons, our staff and yard duty teachers will direct anyone seen at the fence/gate to the office. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping us maintain a safe environment for all.
Ramps Safety Audit Program
As a result of the Ramps Safety Audit Program, EVPS has been allocated funding to rebuild the three ramps in the school. You may have noticed temporary fencing and workmen along Dunolly Street, as these works are currently underway.
Prep Bags Parent Survey
Have your say about this year’s Prep bags in a short survey, closing Sunday 29 September.
Each year, the Department of Education gives every Prep student attending a Victorian government school a bag full of goodies to celebrate this milestone in their education journey. The information and educational resources in the bags are designed to help Prep students and their families thrive from the start of Term 1.
The department is inviting parents and carers of current Prep students to complete a short survey about the 2024 Prep bags, by 5 pm on Sunday 29 September 2024.
Your feedback will help the department learn what families liked about the Prep bags and what can be improved in 2025. You can have your say at Prep bags 2024 evaluation survey. The survey takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous.
For more information on this year’s Prep bags, refer to Prep bags.
Wear it Purple Day
The Department of Education has a clear commitment to ensuring all Victorian government schools are respectful, safe and inclusive places of learning and work for all students, staff and members of our school communities.
This is to support all LGBTIQA+ young people and staff in our schools and the community, in accordance with obligations in the Child Safe Standards to uphold diversity and equity for everyone regardless of their background, characteristics or beliefs. You may have seen staff acknowledging this day by wearing purple.
Upcoming Events
Indigenous Literacy Day - 4th September
Next week we will be celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day by reading a selection of First Nations texts from our library, building our understanding of why Indigenous Literacy is so important.
Literacy provides a fundamental step of building context, comprehension and understanding, whether it is written, visual or auditory. For kids who miss that foundational step in their literacy journey, it has a lifelong impact.
In remote communities across Australia there is often no infrastructure such as libraries or bookstores. Access to reading material is extremely limited and this impacts the achievements of Indigenous children.
You can support this cause by:
- Making a donation through the website
- Purchasing ILF‑published books written by remote Community authors and illustrators from our shop
- Buying an ILF t-shirt for your staff or students to wear to work or school
Whole School Assembly - Friday, 6th September
Join us for our Whole School Assembly on Friday, 6th September. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students' achievements and share important updates with the school community.
R U OK Day - Thursday, 12th September
On Thursday, 12th September, we will observe R U OK Day, a day dedicated to promoting mental health and encouraging meaningful conversations. We will have activities throughout the day to support and reinforce the importance of checking in with one another. Students can join staff by wearing a splash of yellow on the day.
Save the Date - Celebration of Learning and Team Dream Performance
Mark your calendars for Thursday, 12th December! We will be hosting our Celebration of Learning and Team Dream Performance. It will be a day to celebrate the achievements of our students and enjoy performances by the talented dance group Team Dream. An Ice Cream Truck and Coffee van will be here, more details will follow, so stay tuned!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we make Epping Views Primary School a fantastic place for learning and growth.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
Kind regards,
Rachel Griffiths, Acting Principal
