Armidale Light Festival Project

Take a look at Rocky River's "Fairy Tree" art installation which was on display at the Armidale Light Festival tonight in Central Park. Our sculpture came to life, with each individual student's efforts shining bright for all to see! Well done to our creative students and the artistic Ms C who led the project. What a glowing addition to the primary school project section. We are so proud of this amazing sculpture. It was lovely to see many Rocky River families at Central Park on Friday enjoying our installation, and the many other fascinating experiences that the festival provided.

Our incredible "Fairy Tree" sculpture has been chosen to go on display at the Armidale War Memorial Library as part of a sustainability display so if you didn't get to the Light Festival you will still be able to view it at the Library.

New England Sings Rehearsal

We had our first official rehearsal for the New England Sings concert on Friday. Conductor Ian Jefferson and his team ran a morning rehearsal at our school for all students K-6. We were really proud of how engaged our students were. Our talented music teacher Jess has been working with our students each Thursday to prepare and familiarise for the concert. Ian's team commended us on the focus of our students and commendable effort whilst rehearsing the songs.

Lower Division

Lower Division have been working very hard and achieving wonderful results.

In English, we have been reading the books "Florette" and "The Secret Sky Garden" as part of our unit on narrative and used what we learnt from this to write our own stories.

In Mathematics we have looked at how we can organise groups in arrays and modelled how we can use this information using concrete materials.

We have all been enjoying the warmer weather and have been participating in outdoor play. All sorts of activities, from playing soccer, looking after the chickens and enjoying the gardens have been taking place with all students making the most of the sunshine.

Upper Division

We have enjoyed reading outdoors in the beautiful warmer weather. Upper Division students have been sitting outside on the logs, enjoying listening to Mrs Clyde-Smith read our Stage 3 class novel; August & Jones by Pip Harry. Stage 2 students have enjoyed independently reading their novel study text; Wandi by Favel Parrett, whilst sitting outside with their peers.

Stage 3 have delved into representing chance through percentages, decimals and fractions as well as identifying number patterns to efficiently solve multiplication and division problems. It's been exciting to use our "sweaty brains" and show perseverance in these tasks. Students have also improved their quick recall of multiplication facts through our daily maths challenge which supports ease in solving multi-step multiplication and division problems.
