Mandarin

In Mandarin class, the Prep and Year One and Two students named their own facial and body parts in Mandarin via songs and games. They explored the evolution of Chinese characters including mouth - kǒu, eyes - 目mù and ears - 耳ěr. The students sang along and danced to the song If You Were Happy, Clapping Your Hands in Chinese. They practised different tones in Mandarin and noticed that tones are very important, and if you use the wrong tone you end up saying a completely different word from the one you meant.

Year Three and Four students sang common Chinese food in tune with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

mǐ fàn - jiǎo zi -  miàn - baozi       米饭 , 饺子, 面 , 包子

dàn tà -  yuè bǐng - jiān bǐng         蛋挞, 月饼,    煎饼

chūn juǎn -shāo mài  wǒ xǐ huān     春卷 , 烧卖,  我喜欢

wǒ zuì xǐ huān zhōng guó cài        我最喜欢中国菜。

They produced Chinese Food Posters attached.

Year Five and Six students learnt how to say I Like to Eat Chinese Food in Mandarin via a Rap. They named their favourite Chinese food via the sentence pattern learnt in this Rap.
