Maths

This week, students have been focusing on the concepts of area and perimeter by designing their dream houses. They are learning to choose appropriate units of measurement for length, area, volume, capacity, and mass. Additionally, students are calculating the perimeter and area of rectangles, as well as the volume and capacity of prisms using familiar metric units. This hands-on project not only reinforces their understanding of mathematical concepts but also encourages them to think critically about real-world applications, such as architecture and engineering when they design their dream house on grid paper. Students will then get the opportunity to bring their designs to life by exploring them on Tinkercad and Minecraft Education.

English

This week is Book Week and we will be celebrating the Magic of Reading. I hope everyone takes the time to read their favourite books (and add some new ones to their reading list!)

In Literacy, students have been learning about procedure writing. They have been exploring different types of procedures.

Next week, students will be refining their skills in narrative writing using the Seven Steps program.

RE

Year Six students are starting to learn about the processes involved in Confirmation, an important sacrament that signifies their commitment to their faith. Last Sunday, families of Year Five and Six attended the 5pm Family Mass, which also served as a commitment mass for students preparing for Confirmation later this term. In Religious Education, students are exploring the fruits of the Lord in connection with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and engaging in activities designed to deepen their understanding of these concepts. On the 13th of September, students will participate in their final Confirmation ceremony, marking a significant step in their spiritual journey.

INQUIRY

Recently, students have been exploring the evolution of technology. They have examined the similarities and differences between internal and external computer drives, comparing historical and contemporary examples. They are now starting a project where they will design technology inspired by the Olympics, with the aim of positively impacting sports by enhancing performance, safety, or overall experience. This project will not only allow students to apply their understanding of technological advancements but also develop critical thinking and design skills.

SPORT

AFL

Last week, students from Years 3-6 were fortunate to have a visit from the Richmond Football Club for a question-and-answer session. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to learn about the players' journeys in footy and gain insights into the sport.
