Musical Inspirations -Student of the Week

Student of the Week

Music student of the week highlight!

At the start of the term Edward started learning to play drums with me. Edwards reasoning to learn drums was to make loud noises and bang things as hard as he could, I said to him "let's make that happen".

6 weeks later, Edward has utilised his time practising at home and can now read drum sheet music that has the rhythm and grooves for him to learn. Along with reading music, Edward has now learnt two different drum grooves, learning to hit certain parts of the drum kit at the same time whilst incorporating the loud crash sound that he wanted the drum kit to make.

Learning the drum kit isn't an easy skill, it requires a lot of patience, hand-eye co-ordination and able to tell your brain "I can get my hands and feet to do different things at the same time."

Seeing Edward on a Wednesday is a highlight of my Wednesday morning, he's always so excited when I collect him from class as he he runs to get his drum sticks and tells me about his weekend, he likes to make jokes and tries to make me laugh and constantly impresses me with how much better and quickly he's able to pick up a new skill on the drum kit, I sometimes forget how much I've actually taught and for him remember and perfect his craft at such a young age.

Go Edward, you're a star!!
