Learning News 2/3

Mrs Ruth Anderson and Mrs Justine Harris

1/2 Maths - this week we have begun a new unit on Area. We have started by working out how to calculate the area using informal units. We covered the whole area of an object with different items such as envelopes, paper clips, books etc and counted how many of those things it took to cover the area. We discovered that we were not able to make accurate calculations and that we require tools such as a ruler and units such as centimetres and metres to make accurate calculations.

Year 3 Maths

The past week the children have been learning about all the features of 3D objects. They have all really enjoyed the hands on nature of this topic from building to sketching to making a zoo using a range of 3D objects.

2/3 Writing - we have continued with persuasive writing which also gave us the opportunity to have a debate last week. We took on board that during a debate, if you are the second or third speaker, you have to be able to think quickly, to be able to respond to the opposition’s arguments. We worked in teams for all students to participate and share their ideas. We hope to have another one this week.

2/3 Geography - we have continued with the Olympics focusing our research on individual athletes. All have enjoyed coming into the classroom with the latest information to update the medal tally.

K12 Religion - we have been preparing for our mass on Thursday and practising our readings and prayers for Thursday this week.

2/3 Creative Arts - we have begun creating our class display for Frost Over Barraba and discussions on individual entries. K-3 have also had their first dance lessons for their performance during the Peter Pan intermission.

Keep reading at home and practise times tables when either travelling in the car or cooking dinner together.
