Mrs Bindy Abell - Sports Co-Ordinator

One of the first years I’ve ever been to a Diocesan Athletics Carnival with the sun out! A great start to a fantastic day for 25 of our St Joseph's Students.

On Friday the 9th of August, eager kids and parents arrived at the Tamworth Regional Athletics Track bright and early to prepare for the day. We had a great representation of students in all age groups for our 100m Sprints.

Many students placing well in the heats. With approximately 6 heats of 10 students in each age group the top 10 times went through to the finals. It was super exciting to see 4 of our students make the finals.

Congratulations to Georgie Dempsey, Stella Mason, Ryder Brownlie and Dexter Urquhart.

Georgie and Stella ran with great gusto and finished their races gallantly. A tough race for each age group. A big Congratulations to Dexter who won his 100m final with Ryder only very narrowly placing fourth. I can confidently say this race was nearly as close as the 2024 Olympic 100m final. The 200m, 800m and 1500m were all timed finals and again with so many in each heat our students ran exceptionally well.

All official results and times can be found on the ADSPC website. A special mention to the two boys in the junior 1500m who were only 7 years old running their little hearts out against 10 years olds. They definitely held their own, so watch this space in the future.

Finally, a big congratulations to Stella Mason, Dexter Urquhart, Felix Urquhart and Josh Anderson for taking out the Gold in the Smalls Schools relay. All baton changes went smoothly and they won convincingly making their way to the Polding Athletics Trials on the13th of September.

Good luck to Dexter who will be representing the Armidale Diocesan in the 100m and the Relay Team. We will all be watching on live steam!

Also thank you to Mrs Phillips for taking on the role of Team Manager for her first time.

On Thursday the 8th of August our 3/4/5/6's were lucky to be invited to attend a touch football skills clinic that was held at Barraba Central School. A big thankyou to Barraba Central for organising this and asking us to participate in the excellent event, a lot of fun was had by all.

Even though the Olympics has come to an end for another four years we are still keeping the spirit alive at St Joseph’s. With our Olympics PE and Sports challenges continuing. We have had a great volleyball championship this week. Still achievable even with the soaking rain.

The students are still very much enjoying the competition and variety each week. We only have 2 more weeks before our closing ceremony with one of our challenges incorporating

our Paralympic Sports. Stay tuned for that exciting lesson.
