The Importance of Our Junior Swimming Program

Dear Trafalgar Primary School Community,

We are thrilled to have commenced our 2024 Junior Swimming Program, a vital initiative supported by the State Government’s Swimming in Schools program. This initiative is designed to equip our students with essential swimming and water safety skills, potentially saving lives by reducing the risk of drowning and injury.

Swimming is not just a fun activity; it’s a critical life skill. The program is specifically designed to help all students, regardless of their current ability, to become more confident and capable in the water under the guidance of qualified AustSwim instructors. Whether your child is a strong swimmer or just beginning, this program is an invaluable opportunity for them to learn and grow.

However, we’ve noticed that some children are coming to school without their bathers, and some parents have expressed concerns about their child’s ability to swim. I want to reassure you that the program is structured to cater to all levels, from beginners to more advanced swimmers. It’s precisely why we have this program—to teach them to swim safely and confidently.

It’s also important to note that this program is not optional. The State Government has funded it to ensure that every child has access to these essential skills. If your child forgets their swimming gear, they will still attend and sit by the pool, as there will be no supervision back at school during these times.

We ask for your support in making this program a success. Please ensure your child is prepared with their swimming gear on the days they have lessons. Encourage them to participate fully, as the skills they learn could one day save their life.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to your child’s safety and well-being.

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholls
