Students from Year 12 Outdoor Education had their last ever excursion with a Stand Up Paddle boarding activity at Lakes Entrance. The event itself was special, lots of fun was had learning to SUP, falling in, pushing in friends and then seeing dolphins and seals at the Entrance from the sea wall. Georgie and Charlie are to be acknowledged for coming up with the idea for the excursion. There was also learning, with the class visiting the Tambo Bluff Landcare site, to identify methods of community action and evaluate their impact.
For the students involved, this was the final activity in a journey that has involved multiple years of excursions and adventures, from hikes down Diamantina Spur near Mount Hotham in the pouring rain, to pushing through snow around Mushroom Rocks, to walking in pleasant conditions at Falls Creek. The students have canoed the waters of Paynesville, the Mitchell, Tambo and Nicholson rivers and Lake Tyers. They have rock climbed and abseiled at Buchan, surfed at Cape Conran, and hit the mountain bike trails at Omeo. The students will have some amazing memories to take from their time in the Outdoor Education program at Bairnsdale Secondary College.
