The theme of this year's National Science Week (Aug 13-16) was 'Species Survival: More than just sustainability'. Students in Year 11 and 12 Biology, as well as students in Be a Vet, DNA to Dinosaurs, and Survival Skills, were visited by a guest speaker, Rex Barton-Smith. Rex is a Topographical Anatomy Lecturer form The University of Melbourne. Some of the topics he discussed included his pathway into academia from Osteopathy, human evolution, and how donors are selected for use in anatomy studies.
Students also participated in a 'Chemical Analysis of Whale Snot' activity during their lunch break. They used several chemical tests to determine whether the whale snot was considered 'healthy'.
