Berry Street
Monday 2nd September was a Pupil Free Day for students and families, whilst staff were busy extending their professional repertoire of skills. Our focus was continuing the work of Berry Street; learning how we can best support vulnerable children, young people, and families, such as:
- Trauma-Informed Practice; understanding and responding to the effects of trauma on children and young people including strategies for creating safe environments and supporting emotional and psychological wellbeing.
- Positive Behavior Support; increasing techniques for managing and supporting positive behaviour in children and young people, including behaviour management strategies and fostering positive relationships.
This particular day was Day 2 of a four day training suite, focusing on relationships and building positive relational classroom management strategies that promote on-task learning. We look forward to extending our professional knowledge and skills with Day 3 ‘Stamina’ and Day 4 ‘Character’ in the near future.
Spanish Day
The LPS students, staff and community joined together in unity celebrating all things Spanish on Wednesday 28th August. It was a sea of colour representing different South American countries. There were cultural activities of dance and music, food tasting and exploration, arts and crafts, sharing of historical artefacts and storytelling. A highlight was definitely the parade where students were adorned in beautiful costumes, dresses and flowers, with a mix of highlighting our love of soccer. The day could not have been possible without the leadership of Señora Adones with a special guest being her mother. Celebrating a cultural day such as this strengthens and fosters our diversity, understanding and appreciation for different cultures at LPS.
