Principal's Report

I find it hard to believe that we are quickly arriving at the end of Term 3! If you review our school calendar, it is clearly evident that we have done a huge amount and all of it focused on our kids at Langy Park Primary School. I mentioned this in our last school newsletter, and I will repeat again; what makes a school, are the people in it. We are very fortunate at Langy Park Primary School to have highly committed staff, parents and students. I would like to thank you for your personal commitment to ensure that your child makes the most of every opportunity in and out of the classroom.
School Value: Resilience
In our last newsletter I shared with you an article written by Michael Grose, focusing on building resilience with your kids. I wonder how many of you took the time to read this article and reflect on some of the key points raised in it?
Continuing this focus on resilience, one of the first things that comes to mind with resilience, is when you discover that something has happened to your child at school (whether as the victim or aggressor). You and your child's resilience become a 'vital cog' in working through this situation in a calm and respectful way. You need to trust that whatever the incident, it will be worked through by us on the school end, in a very methodical way and you will be directly involved at different stages. When an incident occurs, it is understandable that you need to know that a consequence of some kind will be put in place. Again, this is where your resilience will be important. The consequences we put in place for an incident, will always remain confidential. I'm sure no parent would like to have their child's consequences shared publicly. I hope you will continue to work with your child and with us at school to build your child's resilience. It is such an important thing to have!
Whole School Communication
We are always monitoring and evaluating how we communicate to our school community. We also need to look at how we can ensure our school communication is effective and that you're not missing important school information.
Before the end of the term, I will be hosting a parent forum on our school communication processes, as a way to get your feedback and to improve our processes in this area. I will confirm this date very shortly. I hope to see you there.
DET Parent and Carers Survey
I would like to thank all parent and carers who have taken the time to respond to the DET Parents and Carers survey. This provides us with valuable insights into parent/carers perceptions of our school. We can use these insights as a way inform future directions.
The survey is open until the 20th September and I encourage you to complete it if you haven't already. I have sent a couple of emails through Compass with all our login details to the survey.
Once the data has been released by the Department of Education, I will provide a summary of key findings from this data.
Sunsmart Reminder
Just a reminder that from next Monday, we are back into wearing our school hats. Please make sure that your child has their school hat packed in their bag. It is a requirement that all students wear their school hat when outside at recess and lunchtime.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Take care.
