Parent requests for student 2026 class placement.

A friendly reminder about my compass news feed that I sent out on Monday. I have included it below in case you missed it.

Every year we invite families to make written requests for the placement of your child/ren for the following year, to the Principal. You are now invited to put in writing any request based on educational grounds for your child for 2026.

Planning for the 2026 school year is well underway. In 2026 we will be running the same whole school structure that we currently have in place. In years Foundation (Prep) to year Two we will be running single level classes. There will be Foundation (or Prep) classes, year 1 classes, year 2 classes.

We will maintain our multiage structure in years 3-6. We will be running year 3/ 4 classes and year 5/ 6 classes.

As part of our placement process students will be asked to write a friendship list with 5 friends they believe they can work well with in 2026. Teachers will explain to the students that from their list, everyone will have at least 1 friend in their 2026 class. Students may choose friends from their current class or other classes within their year level. Students entering years 3-6 in 2026 may choose friends from the multiage years that they will be placed into. Please discuss your child’s choices with them encouraging them to think about other students they work well with, remembering they can still socialise with their ‘best friends’ in the playground.

Please be aware that friendship is only one of the many criteria we must consider when creating classes and we put a significant amount of time and energy into ensuring that the classes created are a positive learning environment for all students within the class. We do not rush this process or create classes in a single sitting. There are many staff involved at every year level as well as across year levels to ensure the best placement for every individual student occurs.

Information from parents is considered alongside teachers’ views and social requests and the needs of individual groups of students so that there are positive class placements for every student. The final decision about class placement lies with the Principal. To support our students with the transition process, teacher teams will be defined, and students will spend time with their new class and room as early as possible in December to become familiar will their new setting.

I ask that you do not consider a conversation with a classroom teacher as an official request, as they will not be used to inform a student’s 2026 placement. In previous years there have been occasions when these conversations have been viewed by parents as official class placement conversations guaranteeing the request and these requests have not been met causing distress. We wish to avoid any distress and therefore will only consider classroom placement for 2026 requests sent to me in writing. Please assume that previous requests have not been recorded and that I will need a new written request for any placements for 2026 based on educational grounds.

If you would like to chat to me about your request before making it, please don’t hesitate to email me or call me on the school number. Once classes are announced it is very difficult for us to make changes without it having a significant impact on others so please consider this carefully.

If you wish to submit a written request, please send it directly to me using the email address below by Friday October 17th. I will confirm receipt of your email to ensure that you know I have received it.

Dental Van

We are excited to announce the arrival of the dental van at ENPS next term between 27th -31st October. Your child/ren has received a consent form outlining all of the details. We encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity.

Please complete the consent form( available via the reminder compass news feed) and return it to the school office no later than Friday 10th October @ 3:30pm if you wish your child to visit the dental van.

I hope that you all enjoyed a great break with your children and that the first week of term has started well for you!
