Agency in Learning – Demonstrating Drive

In his book Stolen Focus, Johann Hari highlights how today's fast-paced, distracted world can erode young people’s ability to concentrate, stay motivated and pursue long-term goals. Reclaiming focus, he argues, isn't just about switching off devices, it is about reawakening a sense of drive by connecting to deeper values and ambitions. When students are encouraged to work toward something meaningful, they are more likely to stay engaged and persist, even through challenges.

Now is an excellent time for students to set themselves meaningful goals for their final term of the year. These may be academic, personal or community based. At All Saints’ College, we aim to cultivate agency in learning by supporting students to act with purpose, take initiative and follow through on the things that matter to them.

Families can support this by helping students clarify what they care about by asking questions such as, “What’s something important you’re working toward?” or “What change would you like to see or lead?” These conversations foster purpose and agency, which in turn fuel sustained effort and impact.

As Term 4 unfolds, we are proud to see students demonstrating real drive, pursuing goals with focus, courage and care for their world.

Year 12 Examinations (29 October – 20 November)

The Year 12 2025 ATAR course examination timetables are available on SCSA website and can be accessed here.

Personalised examination timetables are available through the SCSA Student portal. Students should take careful note, as some smaller-subject exams are at exam centres other than All Saints’ College.

Year 11 Semester 2 Exams (10–21 November)

Year 11 Examinations commence on Monday 10 November. Students and families are reminded that the morning sessions commence at 8.30am and the afternoon sessions commence at 1.00pm. Students are expected to be at the examination venue (at the front of L Block) at least 20 minutes prior to the examination start time. The examination timetable is available here on MyASC

NEXUS-S for Study

Whilst students are on study break for exams, all are welcome to use Nexus-S as a study facility. Students are asked to ensure that they are dressed in College uniform and follow the normal grooming guidelines whilst on campus. It is requested that students sign in and out of Nexus-S during this period so that the College has a record of who is on site. During this time, students in Year 11 and 12 may arrive and depart as required.

OLNA - Years 9-10 (select students only)

To achieve a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) at the end of Year 12, students need to demonstrate that they have met minimum Literacy and Numeracy standards.

Students who are yet to achieve the required level therefore need to sit the next round of Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA), scheduled for October this year. Communications have been sent directly to the students and families involved.

The following assessments have been scheduled for select students in Years 9 - 10:

  • Literacy Writing – Monday 27 October
  • Literacy Reading – Thursday 30 October
  • Numeracy – Tuesday 4 November

(Students are reminded to arrive promptly ready to start).

We encourage students to engage with the OLNA revision resources available on MyASC in preparation for the upcoming assessments.
