Snapshots from the week

First Nations BBQ & Welcome to Kyle Bekue

On Wednesday 8 October, our school hosted a First Nations Meet 'n' Greet after school; a heartfelt gathering that brought together families, staff, and community members to strengthen relationships and celebrate culture.

During the event, I had the privilege of speaking with families about the deep history of this place we now call Brisbane. I shared the distinction between Meanjin, which refers specifically to the area around QUT Gardens Point, and Magan-djin, the broader name for the entire Brisbane region. These place names carry powerful meaning and help us understand the layers of connection First Nations peoples have with Country.

I also spoke about the Brisbane River, and how its changing turbidity once marked the boundary between my two Ancestral Homelands; Yuggara and Ugarapul. These stories are not just about geography, but about identity, belonging, and the living history that continues to shape our community.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who came along; your presence and openness made the afternoon truly special. This gathering was a step toward fostering a deeper sense of belonging for our First Nations families. By sharing stories, listening, and learning together, we’re building a school culture that honours Country and strengthens relationships.

We look forward to continuing this journey with our First Nations community...walking together, learning together, and growing together.

Year 9 Camp

This week our Year 9 students had an unforgettable camp on the Sunshine Coast, spending most of their time by the beach.

From team-building activities in the surf to afternoons of sand, sun and laughter, students embraced the chance to challenge themselves, connect with their peers, and create lasting memories. The camp not only strengthened friendships but also encouraged independence and resilience in a relaxed coastal setting.

A huge thank you goes to the staff who supported the experience and helped make it such a rewarding and enjoyable week.
