World Food Day and International Day for Eradication of Poverty
On Thursday, 16th October it is World Food Day and on Friday, 17th October it is the International Day for Eradication of Poverty.
Jesus shared the important message of community and caring for others at the Last Supper, and we remember this every time we take communion. Jesus’ life reminds us of how important it is to serve others in need. Just like he performed the miracle where he fed five thousand people, we are also encouraged to work towards a world where all people have enough healthy food to eat.
If you would like to assist people in the local community, there is a basket available in the church foyer for food donations which will be distributed to those in need by the volunteers from St Vincent de Paul. Food items can be dropped off in the church on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings. Alternatively you could drop off cans and packets of food to the school Library and we will take the donations to the church. We can all play a part in helping to eradicatepoverty in the world.
Loving God,
we come together to reflect on hunger
in our world today.
May we open our hearts to your messages
of love and compassion,
and like you,
work towards a just world
where hunger does not exist.
Inspire us to make a difference
in the lives of others
as we stand together
with our brothers and sisters
around the world.
Amen.
