Prep

Dear Prep families,
It has been a very busy start to Term 4 in Prep! Our swimming program concluded in Week 3 and the students demonstrated incredible independence and resilience during this time. Prep students also participated in the recording of their Christmas carols this week, so we will now be turning our focus to choreography! Please encourage your child to practice both the lyrics and dance moves at home if they can.
No hat, No play
Please remember to send your child's hat with them every day during Term 4. Our school policy is no hat, no play and students without hats will need to remain in the shade during recess and lunch breaks. Ensure that your child's hat is clearly labelled with their name so it can be returned to them if they misplace it.
Reading
During Week Three and Four, our Prep students have been continuing to develop their summarising skills. We have focused on identifying the important events that happen in the beginning, middle and end of stories. Students are learning to identify features of fiction texts such as the characters, setting and the plot. We also introduced the –ate, –ill, and –ump word families when reading. Students have worked on identifying these word families in authentic and rich learning tasks.
Writing
In the last fortnight, students have been taking ownership of their writing by engaging in free writing time. Students are given the opportunity to explore different text types and write about their areas of interest. The Prep teachers have been able to read lots of incredible stories, information reports, recounts and procedural texts! Well done, Preps!
Our sight words this fortnight are: oh, these, because, into and was. You can support your child’s learning by practising these words together at home and using them in short sentences.
Maths
Students have been exploring the properties of 2D shapes in Maths. They have been able to identify and classify 2D shapes based on their attributes. In Week Four, we have been learning about data and statistics. Preps have been inquirers by gathering data on a yes/no question and developing the understanding of how to represent that data using bar graphs.
