Student Leadership

Hi Saltwater Community,

At Saltwater College, we are incredibly proud of the growing confidence and leadership shown by our students. This term, our student leaders have continued to step up, representing our school with pride, empathy, and a strong sense of community.

From leading our Acknowledgement of Country during the School Review Days and sharing why this tradition holds personal meaning to them, to Vander-Kuyp House Captains presenting the Writing Competition, our leaders continue to model respect, teamwork, and responsibility in every setting.

Their actions remind us that leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about making a positive difference, uplifting others, and living the values that make Saltwater College such a special place to learn and grow.

Vander-Kuyp House Captains Lead the Writing Competition. - Primary School

A big congratulations to our Vander-kuyp House Captains, who proudly launched our Saltwater Writing Competition this term! With creativity, enthusiasm, and strong leadership, they encouraged students across all year levels to share their stories and express their voices through writing.

The competition aims to celebrate creativity, imagination, and storytelling within our school community. Our House Captains demonstrated outstanding organisation and communication as they presented the competition details at assembly and inspired others to get involved.

We can’t wait to read the wonderful entries from our talented students , a true celebration of student voice and leadership in action!

Student Exhibition – Continuing Their Action!

Our Year 6 students continue to demonstrate incredible commitment to their Exhibition actions. Even after presenting their presentation, many students are still actively working to make a difference in our community.

One inspiring initiative focuses on supporting local access to sport. Students are seeking donations of used sports equipment, including balls, bats, gloves, and other gear, that can be repurposed and shared with children who may not have the opportunity to access them otherwise.

If you have any gently used sporting items at home, we’d love your support! Donations can be dropped off at the school reception or Year 6 classrooms. Every contribution helps our students turn their action into lasting impact.

Student Leadership in Action: Acknowledging Country with Pride

This term, several of our student leaders proudly represented Saltwater College by opening our School Review days with a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country. Each student spoke with confidence, authenticity, and deep respect, sharing why it is so important to recognise the Traditional Custodians of the land we learn and play on every day.

Their reflections highlighted the importance of connection, respect, and understanding, reminding us that acknowledging Country is more than words; it’s an act of respect and reconciliation that we all have a role in upholding.

We are incredibly proud of these students for demonstrating leadership, cultural awareness, and empathy. Their contributions helped set a respectful tone for our School Review, and they continue to inspire others through their commitment to honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their enduring connection to Country.
