Year Seven-Nine

Coaching Parade Campus

Secondary News

The term has started with plenty of exciting activities and opportunities for our students. Our Year Nine students recently visited the Holocaust Museum in the city. This was an invaluable learning experience where students explored historical displays and had the privilege of speaking with a war veteran, gaining first-hand insight into history.

Year Seven and Eight students have completed their friendship preference invitations. These will help us form the 2026 classes to ensure that each student is placed with at least one friend of their choice — supporting positive relationships and a smooth transition into the new year.

Our Year Nine students are busy preparing for their upcoming graduation ceremony and working on their final newsletter. Graduation invitations have been sent out via Xuno to inform families about the event.

Secondary students were invited to prepare and deliver their own TED Talk–style speeches. A special mention to Mikayla from Year Nine, who presented her talk with confidence and creativity.

Student-led conferences have now been completed. These sessions gave students the opportunity to proudly share their learning achievements with parents, caregivers, and families.

To end the month on a fun note, secondary students celebrated Halloween Dress-Up Day on Friday, 31 October. Students came dressed in some truly impressive and creative costumes, making it a day full of fun and laughter!

Digital Technology/E-Sports Update

Digital Technology has continued gaining momentum as the year has progressed. Along with the usual coding, computing, design and project work, students have also been exposed more to Artificial Intelligence (AI), both how it works and how to use it ethically, and the exciting world of virtual reality (VR).

Virtual Reality Hits Saltwater College

One of the most exciting initiatives launched this year has been the introduction of our Virtual Reality (VR) program — bringing a whole new dimension to learning. This program gives students the chance to explore topics in a fully immersive way, either to deepen their understanding of current lessons or to spark curiosity about new ones.

So far, Humanities, Science, and Digital Technology have been key focus areas. In Humanities, students have stepped back in time to recreate ancient Greek recipes, design medieval houses, work as border guards, and even experience life in the trenches of World War I.

In Science, they’ve explored plate tectonics, built atoms using proton, neutron, and electron “cannons”, and constructed virtual circuits to demonstrate their understanding of Ohm’s Law.

The response has been fantastic — students are not only learning through VR but also creating their own. Some of our Year Nine students are now taking things a step further, learning how to develop their own VR apps.

Year Nine E-Sports/Game Design

Our Year Nine students have been immersing themselves in the world of E-Sports and Game Design through a program offered at Wyndham Tech School.

In Term Three, the course allowed students to explore the rapidly growing gaming industry by developing their own Esports brand and designing a tournament from the ground up.

In Term Four, students are now gaining insight into the many roles involved in bringing a game to life — from 2D design theory and offline prototyping to 3D asset creation and game mechanics.

Year Nine Robotics

Another group of our Year Nine students have been getting hands-on with Robotics through an exciting course at Wyndham Tech School. They’ve been building and programming their own robots—complete with rotary motors and functional arms—capable of tackling a range of engineering challenges (including launching objects with a catapult feature!).

Each week, students extend their skills in mechanical design, autonomous coding, and computational thinking, gradually improving their creations and gaining experience in automation and problem-solving. It’s a fantastic blend of creativity and engineering.
