Inquiry Learning Extravaganzas

Primary School at the end of the term is always a hive of excitement and Term Three has not been an exception. The culmination of a term’s worth of learning has been highlighted this week with the Year Five Market Day stall and a wonderful showcase of HASS and Science learning in the Primary School foyer. I strongly encourage you to come and view their hard work before the big tidy-up for Term Four begins.

Classroom News

We hope you enjoy reading the classroom news from each week of term in our Early Childhood and Primary School classes.

Kindergarten

We have had a wonderful term in Kindergarten learning all about “Under The Sea”. This has been such a fun inquiry and we have so many highlights. Two of our favourite parts of the term included going to the Fish Traps to learn about Indigenous culture and also having our marine biology incursion viewing many amazing things. This term we have enjoyed learning new letters and now we are able to put them together to sound out words. It is a very exciting time in our literacy development. Our counting skills are improving and our ability to recognise a wide range of numbers. We are busy little people in Kindergarten and can’t wait to jump into Term Four!

Pre-Primary

Pre-Primary is finishing Term Three with a bang! Not only have we discovered what living things need to survive, we have also grown sunflower seedlings. We have given the seedlings water and food (it’s in the soil) and they get lots of fresh air and sunshine – perfect for growing! Unfortunately, our seed that has lots of water has not grown at all and our seed that is kept in the dark has grown much less than the others. Finally, we will finish our term with our amazing assembly, and we are very excited to perform in front of our families and friends.

Year One

The Year One students have been writing some amazing stories this week. Their latest photo prompt was a huge twister which resulted in some fabulous adjectives like ‘deep, dark and scary’ and similes such as ‘fast as a flash’ and ‘slow as a sloth’! The Year One inquiry ‘What’s changing outside and why?’ has led the children to formulate and build on ideas related to changing weather conditions. Some very complex thoughts arose from our discussion about the need for farmers to have access to weather apps, ranging from ideas on drought, seeding, animal care and safety. The children loved their Friday afternoon visit to the Wild Space, where the excessive sea foam and colour of the water also provided another link to our inquiry topic!

Year Two

We have had a huge focus on mathematics this week. Looking at number lines and MAB  up to 1000, addition using the jump strategy, and expanding numbers to see what they are made up of. We have also begun planning our own narratives. This type of writing is so much fun as students get to be creative in coming up with their own settings and characters. We have continued to practice our Tak 4 Writing text and found the nouns, adjectives and verbs in this story. We have loved seeing our Inquiry and all our hard work up on display in the foyer too!

Year Four

The Year Four class is displaying their amazing local government dioramas this week in the Primary School foyer. Come and see their awesome creations! The photos you saw last week were taken when the dioramas were still under construction. This week, you can see their completed dioramas and will be amazed to see how clever and creative they are!

Year Five

The quote, ‘We did it!’ rang loud after our market stall on Monday. The culmination of a term’s work in Mathematics, Science, HASS, English and Technologies came to fruition on Monday…and what fun we all had. The students can be incredibly proud of their efforts in creating a fun and engaging market stall for our Primary School. We managed to raise over $800 for our chosen charity, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Western Australia, a vital organisation that provides essential medical care to people living in remote and rural areas of our state.

A huge thank you to all the Year Five families for their support (both emotionally and financially) and to the Primary school students for generously supporting all the stalls.

Year Six

Languages

In Languages, we believe learning French vocabulary can be both meaningful and fun! Recently, while exploring words for different types of cakes, students enjoyed a range of interactive games, including a treasure hunt, flashcard competitions between houses, charades, a detective game, role play, “follow the voice leader,” and even a racing game. These activities not only built vocabulary knowledge but also encouraged teamwork, creativity, and lots of laughter along the way.

School Sports Nationals – Samuel Forgus

Good luck to Samuel Forgus (Year Six) who will represent WA in Ballarat as part of the School Sport interstate WA team from the 25 October to 29 October 2025. Samuel worked hard during the long course season to be in the top two of the state for his 50m and 100m butterfly events. He currently sits fifth and tenth for the 100m and 50m butterfly for 11-year-olds nationally. We know Samuel will represent the school with pride and we wish Samuel all the best and look forward to hearing of your achievements.

Congratulations to Malachy Williams (Year Six) who also received an invitation to represent the school at this event but has had to pull out due to injury.

We wish our incredible Primary School teacher Mr Peter Carman (Year Six) and Miss Kaila Thomas (Music) all the best for their (separate) wedding days these coming holidays. Staff had a lot of fun on Tuesday, celebrating the upcoming nuptials.
