The Plenty Valley Volleyball Girls squad played a challenging game against Yarrambat on Friday, the 17th of October. The Plenty Valley Volleyball Girls squad won the game with their outstanding serves and great teamwork. Hailey started strong with a powerful serve that scored a point and later made an excellent set that led to another point for Plenty Valley. Estelle and Sam both served confidently, helping keep the pressure. Wynter also had a fantastic game, serving well and making a smart set that scored a point, followed by a quick bump that earned another.
The Plenty Valley Volley Boys squad played against Yarrambat. It was a great game full of teamwork and skill. Jack F made a good bump to keep the ball in play, and Harvey followed up with a nice set. Isaac sent over many solid serves, keeping the pressure up. Jack M also served well, earning the team a point. Mrs Naccari said, “both teams did really well in serving and teamwork.”

PVCC lost the bat flip and Yarrambat chose to bowl first. Although there were lots of no balls at the start, there was plenty of encouragement amongst teammates. Our batsman made plenty of runs off the tee balls (which you get to hit when a no ball is bowled against you). When our batting innings were over, we walked onto the field feeling confident. Yarrambat’s batsmen were still able to make a decent amount of runs but were not able to catch us. Overall, both teams did well for their first match of the season, and there was a good vibe on the field, with lots of encouraging comments for the opposing teams.
Hot Shots

Last week we played against Yarrambat Primary School for Hot Shots Tennis. All of the students were keeping their eye on the ball and giving it their best shot.
The boys played their singles round first and won 8 out of 10 games! So, by the end of the boy’s singles round, P.V.C.C was already in the lead. Throughout the round, Yarrambat played solidly. Well done to our boys on that round. Next came the girls’ singles round. The Plenty Valley girls managed to take a clean sweep of that one, winning all of their 10 games. Our girls really had their eye in, and after their great effort last week, are showing why they are going through to the Division competition.
Once all of the singles matches had been played, it was time for the Hot Shots Doubles. Again, the Boys played first. In the Doubles competition, PVCC took a clean sweep in both the boys’ and the girls’ competitions.
Well done to all of the players.

This 4 inning rounder’s game on Friday against Yarrambat was a close game, with strong belief from our team that we could come out with the victory. The final score was 29 to 28, our team losing by one point, which was obviously disappointing. However, it was a good game with plenty of good bats and great moments. Yarrambat choose to bat first, letting us field. In each innings we got around 7 runs. Everyone did their best bats, and one Yarrambat player hit the ball pretty far. That was one of the few times that 3 runs were scored in one hit. As always, there was plenty of encouragement from either side.
One highlight I want to point out, was in the second inning. Our team was batting, and the first batter got 4 balls, giving them a walk. Then, the second and third followed suit, getting walks. The fourth and fifth got walks, giving us 2 runs. They also all coincidentally got 2 strikes, which meant one more and they were out. One of the players told me that in a ball 3, strike 2 situation (in which you either walk, get out, or run) that “just hit It” was the best advice.
Basketball
The girls basketball squad ran out comfortable winners against Yarrambat B, with every player contributing to a strong performance. Swarming defence led to numerous fast break opportunities, which the team capitalised on to build the scoreboard pressure. Offensive rebounding stood out as a key factor in the victory, as we consistently found ourselves with multiple opportunities on each possession. Mila & Kiara led the way on the scoring end for the team, Maeve’s tenacity on defence stood out and Alice secured the highlight of the match with a long two-point jumper.
The boys’ basketball squad fought out a nail-biting three point victory over a Yarrambat squad that we practiced against last week. The on ball defensive pressure was high, leading to transition opportunities throughout the match. We kept a small buffer throughout the match, until Yarrambat led a late push and took the lead back with only a few minutes remaining. In a show of character, the Plenty Valley boys steadied, a crucial steal and fastbreak layup from Chase helped to steal momentum back, and then free throws from Lucius and Izak sealed the game. Van’s ability to break down the defence with his driving game and Lucius’ rebounding stood out. Jayden’s leadership and voice, calling out coverages and actions, was crucial to wrestling back the momentum late in the game. Strong, encouraging performance from the squad to set up the remainder of the season.
