For the last few weeks, Prep students have been learning about the 7 continents! Students have used their imagination to travel to Europe, Asia and Africa and have seen amazing landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids of Giza. They have observed how the environment is different in different countries and continents. Students have been practising identifying the continents on a world map. Well done, Preps!

This week, the Year 1 and 2 students have been building their teamwork skills through collaborative art activities. We discussed skills such as sharing ideas respectfully, planning together, negotiating and compromising, and using encouraging and supportive language. Students were placed into random groups and given a simple prompt: draw a picture using black and coloured fine-liner pens. Each group worked together to decide what to draw and how to share the tasks. The students created beautiful, imaginative artworks, but I was even more impressed by their amazing teamwork. Great job, everyone!
Over the past two weeks in PE, we have been practicing our basketball dribbling and shooting skills. We started with a fun skill challenge, learning how to pass in different ways to a partner. We then had a competition to see how many passes we could make in one minute. After, we worked on our dribbling skills. Focusing on how to perform cross-overs, windscreen wipers and bouncing between our legs. We had lots of fun learning these skills whilst moving in different directions. Finally, we finished with a basketball match. Well done to all of our students taking part in PE this week!

Over the past few weeks our Grade 5 and 6 students have been working on there final assessment item for the year. After receiving feedback from the students, they wanted to have an opportunity to create their own piece of music in groups with no strict parameters or themes. They essentially wanted creative freedom to work collaboratively with their classmates to produce original musical works they were proud of on instruments of their choice.
Students were assessed on their ability to play cohesively as a unit, create instrument parts with appropriate level of difficulty and complexity and their ability to arrange sections of their piece into a clear song form and structure.
Our Grade 5 and 6 students were highly engaged with this project and worked well to problem solve, compromise and support each other. The final products were very impressive. It was fantastic to see the skills built across the year on display as each group performed for their class.
Last week was the final week for library borrowing. This week Years 1-6 will be visiting the library to return their books.
All library books are due back between Monday 1st – Friday 5th December on your child’s usual library day. Books can also be returned at any time to the library and placed in the book return box.
If you have lost library books, please email Ms Zoe at zoe.danaher@smps.vic.edu.au
