This Week At OOPS

Footy Academy this week was pumping with mini games and skills and drills for all ages! It was great to see students from Prep all the way through to Grade 5 attending to share in their love of footy. Well done to Tom, Hugh, Sul, and Oscar who run the club each week. Footy Academy is on every Thursday at B2 in the gym.

Last week, the Year 2 students took part in a hands-on “Fruit Fractions” activity. They worked in small groups to cut and share different fruits, including bananas, mandarins, strawberries, and blueberries, into equal parts. The students recorded their learning by writing fraction sentences such as halves and quarters, showing how the pieces were shared fairly. This practical and engaging task not only reinforced their understanding of fractions but also made maths meaningful and fun through a healthy, tasty(!) and collaborative experience.

The grade 4's germinated seeds during their kitchen garden session last week, using the greenhouse to speed up the process. We have planted sunflowers, carrots and beetroot. We've experimented with planting pumpkin seeds that we've taken from fresh produce.  We haven't had any success as yet but are hoping we will soon!   Students are learning how we can grow our own food using leftovers and scraps.

Earlier in the year some students in Year 4 wrote to Whitehorse Council about an issue in their local area. The Councillor wrote an individual reply to each student!
