Prep Overview of Learning

The Prep Team would like to welcome you all back to our final term of 2025! We have another jam-packed term ahead with many exciting events. Whole School Assemblies will now be held on Mondays at 9:05am, as our weather will be warmer (hopefully!). The classroom teaching staff and room numbers are as follows:

This Term's Learning in Prep

English

In Reading and Viewing students will: 

 • recognise that texts are created by author's who tell stories and share experiences that may be similar or different to students’ own experiences. 

• identify some familiar texts and the contexts in which they are used. 

• use comprehension strategies to understand and discuss texts read or viewed. 

• identify some differences between imaginative and informative texts. 

 

In Writing students will: 

 • understand that sounds in English are represented by upper and lowercase letters and can be written using learned letter patterns 

• create short texts to explore, record and report ideas and events using familiar words 

 

 In Speaking and Listening, students will learn to: 

• listen to and respond orally to texts and to others in informal and formal classroom situations. 

• deliver short oral presentations to peers.

Mathematics 

In Maths, students will: 

• represent practical situations, including simple financial situations

• represent practical situations that involve equal sharing and grouping

•  describe the position and location of themselves and objects

• Identify and compare attributes of objects and events, including capacity and mass, and use direct comparisons to communicate reasoning

Inquiry 

In our Term 4 inquiry unit, “Fur, Feathers, Skin, Scales”, students will group animals based on their observable features. They will explain the animals classification, where animals live and what they look like.

 

Key Questions the students will explore include: 

  • How is an animal classified? 
  • What are some of the observable features of animals? 
  • What do animals need to survive?
