Years 2 & 3

Congratulations again to Mrs Huf and the students, and thank you parents, for the amazing Shrek show! I was proud to see how the years 2 and 3 students conducted themselves during the rehearsals. They showed an immense amount of respect for the process, waiting patiently when needed and giving it their all when it was their turn to practice. My hat goes off to them for their ability to take on feedback and practice even harder.
The musical was a fantastic life lesson on the benefits of practice, and we have discussed this in the classroom this week in relation to our school values of excellence and dedication, and in relation to reading. I have encouraged students to recommence recording their reading in their reading diaries, and to bring these to school each day. To try to make this engaging and a fun class challenge as well as an individual practice task, in the 2/3 room we will be pooling the number of pages read as recording our total pages read as a group. I hope this will be a fun team building activity, as well as provide the basis for some sharing about books read as well as some maths work. I have asked students to record the number of pages read in their diary and we can add this amount to the cumulative pooled total each day. It would be a fantastic support if you could please remind your children to record their pages read. Our team total so far (1 day) is 92 pages.
In English lessons, we have persisted with our research about iron. Skills practised including highlighting important words in a passage of text, using different graphic organisers to record the information, and building topic specific vocabulary. Students have begun drafting an informational text about iron, and will continue to work on this for the remainder of the term. In our word work we have focused on regular and irregular plurals, pronouns, and words that end in a silent e. We were lucky to have Miss Mason with us for a day as well for a shared reading and sentence writing activity.
In Maths, we have been focused on multiplicative thinking, practicing with doubles and visualising multiplying in a variety of concrete and visual ways. Yesterday students enjoyed visiting the Maths Cafe, where the prices are double every Sunday. We may need to work on budgeting in future, as the average price of the Sunday meals they ordered ended up somewhere around $100!!!
