Science Week

This week we celebrated Science Week. The school theme for National Science Week in 2025 is Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language

Prep Experiment

This term, the Preps have been exploring living things! We discovered that living things grow and change, eat, move and reproduce. To put this to the test, Prep LC did an experiment to see if plants are living or non living. Using food dye and celery as our make believe plants, we explored how plants eat/drink water to live. Look how our celery turned blue and red! To finish our science week off we completed a fun skittle experiment where we learnt about diffusion and dissolving.

Year 4 Experiment

In Year 4, the students conducted a science experiment called, 'Communicate with Light.' Scientists are finding new ways to use light to send messages from satellites back to Earth. This experiment invited students to create a code for communicating using a torch. They worked in small groups to make a secret code and communicated the code to another group. Each group had to try and guess the message.

Below are some DIY science activities that you may want to try at home with your child/ren.

Year 2 Experience

As part of our progressive Camp Program, the Year 2 students participated in a Year 2 Experience today. The students visited Activate by Hardrock in Moorabbin and participated in activities such as: clip & climb, the vertical drop slide and the leap of faith. After lunch they went to Balwyn Park where we will play a series of team building games and use the playground. The students then walked down the road to Palace Balwyn Cinema to watch Frozen 2. A huge thank you to Mrs Chirio, Miss Pigatto and Mrs Toomey for organising this experience.

Senior Boroondara Leadership Day

Next Tuesday 19 August the Seniors will travel to Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Boroondara Youth Leadership Day. There will be many other schools in attendance.

The focus of the day will be 'Leadership', in particular:

  • What leaderships means to them?
  • What trait makes a good leader?
  • What leadership skills would they want to improve on?
  • How do they see the leadership event?

The schools will be separated into different rooms and work together to answer questions and solve problems. It will be a great day meeting students from other schools and developing leadership skills needed for the future.
