Sacraments

First Eucharist

Congratulations to our Grade Four First Eucharist Candidates for completing their Sacrament the other week. We continue to pray for these young adults as they continue their faith journey with the support of their families and the entire school community. Thank you to all the students (and their teachers) who spent time and effort making the beautiful cards the Year Fours have been receiving. These thoughts and words have played a big part in adding to this very special Sacrament.

Confirmation

Confirmation Key Dates 2025:

Week beginning Monday 4 August until Friday 29 August:

Registration is now open through Operoo.

Friday 12 September: Reflection Day

On Friday 12 September all Year Six students will be participating in a Confirmation Reflection Day. A variety of fun, reflective and prayerful activities have been planned as part of this special day. As this is a special day, students may wear casual clothes. At approximately 1pm, we will walk down to Alexandra Gardens for lunch (weather permitting); children can bring a picnic rug and their own lunch.

Thursday 18 September:  Confirmation Mass (6pm)

We are looking forward to gathering as a community and celebrating our candidates’ reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation at a special Mass at 6pm on Thursday 18 September.

We look forward to supporting your children through this next stage of their faith journey.

Feast of the Assumption

Today, Sacred Heart School and Parish came together to celebrate the solemn feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. As a community, we honoured Mary, our Blessed Mother, and reflected on her example of kindness, love, and devotion. We pray for the grace to emulate her virtues in our daily lives, especially in our relationships with family and friends.

As part of our observance, we offered the special prayer of the Church, the Hail Mary. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Sacred Heart students for their beautiful and reverent portraits of Mary, which added a meaningful touch to our celebration.

We also thank Father Michael for leading us in this most reverent mass.

Senior Soccer

On Monday the 4th of August the Grade 5 and 6 Interschool Sport Soccer Team; Eli D, Freddie G, Emily L (Year 5), Emily L (Year 6), Dejion J, Eirini S, James L and Will W, competed in the Division Soccer Championships at Hartwell Sports Ground, Glen Iris. We competed in the Boroondara Division Boys/Mixed and played 4 amazing matches because we only had 8 players on our team compared to the 9 or more players on each team we played against. Sadly we lost all of our matches, but cherished the opportunity to represent our school and put up a great fight. A big thank you to Mr O’Shea who quickly organised for us to go with less than a week's notice and Miss Privitelli who volunteered to be our coach for the day and kept us going.

3/4 Hoop Time

On Wednesday the 6th of August, Year 3 and Year 4 went to Hoop Time. First, we travelled to Waverley Basketball Stadium. Once we arrived, we put our bags down and got ready for the day. My team started with a bye so I watched a Grade 3 game. Next, my coach Paul, told us it was our turn to play a game against the other Grade 3 Sacred Heart team. We lost, but it was still fun. After the game, we ate our snack to give us energy for our next few games. We then were able to play some more games and I was lucky enough to score a goal in one of them. I had a great day at Hoop Time and would like to thank Mr O'Shea and the parents for coming along.

3/4 Soccer Gala Day

On Friday morning all the Year 3 and 4’s met Mr O’Shea in the MPR to get ready in our teams and head to the buses that would take us to Hislop Reserve. It was cloudy when we arrived, but turned out sunny for pretty much the rest of the day. We were all really excited when we got there. When we arrived, we waited for the rest of our school to arrive and set up the tent. Some parents were also there on the day to help with teams. Before the matches started, we got to have a quick snack. Most of the other schools arrived at the same time such as St Roch's, St Anne's, Greythorn and Our Ladies are some of the schools I remember. I played in the Cats team with other Year 3 boys like Edward, Lucas, Aiden, James, Oscar and Nixon. In the first game we played against the first team and we won. After that, we went back to the tent and prepared ourselves for the next round against St. Rochs. It was a close game but they beat us in the end. In between games we cleaned our soccer boots and practised some drills. Finally, after a long day of soccer matches we headed for the bus to go to Sacred Heart. We were all really tired!!!! It was a great experience and I can’t wait for the next Gala Day.

Last Friday the 8th of August, the Year 3s and Year 4s went to the Soccer Gala Day. We travelled by bus to Hislop Reserve. First, we got into our teams and got ourselves ready for our first game. We lost our first game 7-2. Next, we took a break and ate our snack. It was then time for our next game. We played well but still lost. During our next break we ate our lunch in the sunshine. Finally, we finished the day playing 3 more games and we were lucky enough to win one of them. I had a great day at the Soccer Gala Day. I can't wait for next term's Gala Day.

2025 School Closure Days

As was communicated to families last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
