WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (2of 2)

A Week of Cultural Connection: Hosting Shibuya Junior High
BY KRISTA LA GRECA (LEAD SENIOR ADMIN, BUS COORDINATOR & PA TO DEPUTY)
Over the past week, BHCS has had the privilege of hosting 23 students and two staff members from Shibuya Junior High School. As they prepare to depart this Sunday, March 22nd, we reflect on a rewarding exchange that allowed us to share Australian culture while gaining wonderful insights into Japanese traditions.
Our guests enjoyed:
The Dandenongs: A trip on Puffing Billy to take in our landscapes and native birdlife.
Local Adventure: A walk through Birdsland Reserve followed by a classic Aussie BBQ.
Sport & Play: Joining Prep-Year 2 for water play, learning the art of kicking and handballing an AFL ball, and various lunchtime games including basketball, volleyball, skipping and copious games of UNO.
The Shibuya students also fully immersed themselves in BHCS life, attending Year 7 Rotations, Year 8 PUSH, 9 & 10 PE, Christian Studies, Humanities and Science. Students also enjoyed afternoon activities in either Food Tech (making ANZAC biscuits) or Art (patterned Australian animals).
We are incredibly proud of all BHCS students for the warm welcome they provided and including our visitors in their activities.
Finally, a massive thank you to our host families. Your exceptional hospitality provided these students with authentic memories of Australian family life that will last a lifetime. We look forward to a long and continued partnership with Shibuya Junior High!
CSEN RALLY DAY: A Day to Remember for Our Year 11 & 12 Students
BY STEVE KELLY (SPORTS COORDINATOR - SECONDARY / CSEN COORDINATOR)
Last week our Year 11 and 12 students represented BHCS at the annual CSEN Rally Day. Across the courts, sand and fairways, our students competed with great spirit, supported one another, and represented the school with pride.
Tennis - Our girls' tennis team produced one of the standout performances of the day, winning the Division 2 Tennis Championship. The girls also progressed to a playoff match for third place overall — a strong effort across the full day of competition. It was a fantastic result and a well-deserved achievement.
Beach Volleyball - The beach volleyball teams brought fantastic energy throughout the day. With two BHCS teams competing, the girls supported each other constantly from the sidelines, cheering and celebrating every point. The highlight came when the two BHCS teams faced each other in an exciting playoff during the finals — a great moment of fun, teamwork and school spirit.
Basketball - There were several strong performances on the basketball court. Steve C and Landon K both played exceptionally well for their teams. Landon capped off an impressive day by being named Player of the Tournament, a terrific recognition of his performance.
Golf - Our golfers competed in difficult conditions but handled the challenge with composure and determination. They represented the school with great effort and sportsmanship throughout the day.
A Special Mention - A special acknowledgement goes to Rhea C and Maddie L (Year 12) who stepped in to assist with scoring for the boys' volleyball matches. Despite earlier being disappointed that they were unable to play, they volunteered their time without complaint and served the day with a wonderful attitude. It was a quiet act of maturity and service that reflects the character we value in our senior students.
Overall, Rally Day was a great example of students supporting one another, competing with integrity, and proudly representing BHCS. Thank you to the staff who accompanied and supported our students throughout the day.
