A message from our Assistant Principal

Summer Fair Success

A huge thank you to James Spalding and Charlei Hoad for their incredible leadership in coordinating this year’s Summer Fair on Saturday 21 February. It was an amazing day for our school community and a highly successful fundraiser, with the initial total sitting at approximately $35,000.

 

Events such as our Summer Fair simply would not happen without the support of many volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped in the lead-up and on the day. This includes our wonderful bakers who contributed to the cake stall, the cooks who worked tirelessly on the BBQ, and the many volunteers who led and supported the wide range of stalls and activities. It truly was a fabulous day for our community.

 

Open Classrooms

Our Open Classroom sessions in Week 5 were a great success and were very well attended by parents and carers. These sessions provided a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, see the classroom environment and learn more about the current learning taking place across the school. Our students were incredibly proud to share their school experiences with their visitors.

 

We will hold Open Classrooms again in Term 3 as part of our communication and reporting process for Semester One. Early in Term 3, families will be invited to attend Open Classrooms and Parent/Teacher Interviews to accompany the student reports issued at the end of Term 2.

 

Curriculum Day – Friday March 6th – Real Schools

Today, staff participated in our first professional learning day with Daniel Vella from Real Schools. Daniel will work with us as the expert facilitator across our three-year partnership, and we look forward to sharing more about today’s curriculum day in upcoming newsletters.

 

Restorative Practices are not new to MPPS; however, this renewed partnership provides us with an opportunity to review and refine our practices in line with Real Schools 2.0, ensuring a consistent and aligned approach across the school.

 

During the first half of this term, staff have begun exploring resources from the Real Schools platform. Our learning has focused on several foundational elements of restorative practices, including:

 

  • The importance of strong relationships between all members of the school community as the foundation for restorative practice
  • The language we model when supporting student behaviour, including the use of affective statements
  • The importance of understanding context when supporting students to reflect on and repair behavioural choices

 

We look forward to continuing this work together as we strengthen a positive, restorative and connected school culture.
