From the Rector

Dear Fellow Mazenodians,

When our hearts are full, our eyes leak. We have had a lot of full hearts this week as we have navigated sadness as a united family.

Our Catholic Christian tradition believes that LIFE is bigger than death, and we pray for everyone experiencing grief and loss at this time, and indeed at all times.

In the midst of this period, there have also been many moments of grace, with the Cebula House Mass and International Women’s Day Mass being highlights. Cebula is a unique blend of Boarders and Day boys, and the Mass, is a way of unifying them.

We also witnessed the historic and wonderful occasion of the visit of Fr Chicho OMI, our Oblate Superior General from Rome. Fr Chicho is a Spanish Oblate who became our worldwide leader in 2022 after serving in our Western Sahara mission.

There were many wonderful occasions that may be captured elsewhere, but some particular highlights included the blessings of our new mosaic, icon, Wilson Boarding House refurbishment and our Yarning Circle.

The most significant moment was the commissioning of our new Principal, Mrs Sabrina Hughes. As she made her commitment to the Oblates and the College, we assured her of our support and prayers.

Fr Chicho brought with him the Oblate Cross of St Eugene de Mazenod OMI, which has been entrusted to him during his time as Superior General. Our entire community has been blessed through the grace of this cross.

We also visited the beautiful town of Wongan Hills, where a collection of boarding families from around the district gathered for a family lunch. Many of the boarders were able to join us, depending on their timetables. Fr Chicho enjoyed a very special visit, and following his time in Western Australia, he has now moved on to South Australia and the eastern states.

Take care, God bless, and please continue to pray for each other.
