School Council

with Angela Stratton,

Council met for the second last meeting of the year on 25/10/2023.  All parents and community members are welcome to attend council meetings as observers.  If you would like to know more about what is happening at the school, please come along.  Thank you to Rachel Fallon for self nominating for the parent position still available on School Council. As there have been no other self nominations, Rachel Fallon will take the open position.

Key points for discussion at the last meeting were:

  • Planning for 2024 staffing is well underway, this includes the Assistant Principal and Leading Teacher position.
  • The School Improvement Team are meeting regularly and progressing on the strategic plan. Information was communicated to parents during the first week of term around progress. Staff survey results were discussed with areas for celebration and improvement.  Details on the parent survey will be re-published in the school newsletter as some parents missed it last term.
  • 2024 school contributions and book lists were approved and will be distributed to parents shortly.  Council are conscious of the financial strain families are under at present and therefore only a minimal increase was made. There will be new student lockers that are able to have an optional pad-lock attached to provide a more secure option for BYOD.
  • Due to a significant underspend in the budget, the school has been able to reallocate $200,000 towards school facility improvements.  As there is so much exciting work happening, council has re-formed the Facilities and Maintenance subcommittee to provide oversight.
  • There will be ongoing works on painting, carpeting, new classroom furniture, staff room refurbishment as well as the planning for the toilets.  If you haven't been to the school recently, please drop in and take a look.  The works to date are looking fantastic! There are some exciting school camps coming up which are providing wonderful opportunities for our kids.  All were approved by council.  See the school newsletter for more details on these camps.  These camps highlight the unique opportunities provided by our school.  Thank you to all the staff who run these camps.
  • Council acknowledged the significant contribution of our School Captains and Vice Captains for 2024.  The school community should be very proud of the high level of leadership that these young people have shown not only in themselves, but they have fostered leadership development within the younger years.
  • A discussion was held around ways the school can increase community awareness of all the opportunities that our school provides.  Many of these are only possible in smaller schools such as ours.  Council encourages feedback from parents on how the school can best celebrate and share these achievements with the school community.
