Miss Justine Goonan

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our first newsletter of Term Three!

The school holidays are now a distant memory since we've reached Week Three of the term, but our students have settled beautifully back into learning.

In Week One several of our students joined Corryong Health, Towong Shire and Corryong College in a NAIDOC Week event. It was a great opportunity for our students (and us staff also) to learn about local connections to Indigenous culture and heritage from locals in our community. One of my take aways was a story about how Colac Colac got its name from the sound that Rosella's make. We hope to continue seeking out opportunities for our students and community to build their connection with the local Indigenous culture and heritage.

Matilda went to Melbourne with her family to participate in the State Cross Country. A fantastic achievement for Tills, who proudly beat her personal best time at the event.

In Week Two we held our Open Day and Parent Information night. This is just one part of our enrolment process that we have run this year. We have also had staff visiting and meeting with parents at the Preschool, held excursions for the Preschool groups at Sacred Heart and individual school tours. We have had great feedback from our visitors about the information that we have provided, and we have had a strong number of applications for students to join us in Foundation in 2027. We will always accept enrolments at any part of the year, but we are hoping to get most applications through in the next fortnight as it will help us for planning and budgeting for next year.

During Week Three we welcomed many prospective 2027 Foundation students to our F/1 classroom for the morning. It was great to see so many new faces and them getting comfortable and confident in the new school environment.

I attended the new Bishop's Installation on behalf of Sacred Heart School at the Cathedral in Bendigo. I was amongst many Principals, Parishioners and Clergy that were there to welcome and celebrate the new Bishop, Bishop Rene Ramirez. I look forward to sharing details about the event with our students next week, as they couldn't believe that a Church could be 100 times bigger than our Sacred Heart Church.

School Uniform

Lots of reminders about warm clothes (we hear the arguments you have at home about this can be fun, so we try to help at school), so I encourage them to wear a jumper and pants to school because sometimes the temperature is below zero! They are welcome to wear shorts underneath, so when we see a hint of sunshine, or we get above a zero they can get their legs out!

Best of luck for everybody enjoying the last round of football and netball in the Upper Murray this week

Justine
