Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

What a week! With only three days in the classroom this week, teachers and students jammed packed a lot in. 

 

Students completed two post assessments on our Mathematics topic 'Addition and Subtraction.' It was fantastic to see the growth in many students from this Formative Assessment. Along with observations and work samples teachers gained greater insight into what students have learnt over the last 3 weeks and where to next with the teaching of addition and subtraction. 

 

On Wednesday, students participated in Ash Wednesday Mass in which they received the ashes of last year Palm Sunday palms on their forehead. This symbolises the beginning of Lent and the 40 days leading up to Easter. Here's a short clip that explains Lent a bit further.

Religious Education Focus

Earlier this week the oldest child in each family has been given a Project Compassion box. Next week students will be looking at Caritas: Project Compassion and how they support vulnerable families in their day to day life.

English Focus

We will be coming to the end of reading “Kensuke’s Kingdom” and complete grammar, vocabulary and comprehension tasks related to the text. Students will be finalising their persuasive writing piece and ensuring that they have influenced their audience within this piece. 

 

Mathematics Focus

Students will begin exploring multiplication and division using arrays for 4, 6, 7 and 8 timetables.

 

Integrated studies

Students will look at the cultural significance of shelters and season within the First Nations People culture. 

 

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR

Students will be exploring the cultural identity of our First Nations People and exploring the identifying features of an Acknowledgment of Country and Welcome to Country. 

 

Auslan Focus

Students will starting Unit 2. Unit 2A is looking at classroom instructions and entity signs such as yes, no, lunchtime, recess, cross your legs, stand in a circle and sit in a circle.

Reminders

Students in Year 4 need 9-12 hours sleep a night, for good brain and body development.

  • Breakfast needs to be a healthy meal to help your child to learn and develop well
  • Please pack enough fruit and snacks for them to enjoy during brain food and eating time
  • Please send a filled water bottle with your child to school. 

Year 4 Swimming Forms (Paper and on Simon) need to be completed and handed back to your child's classroom teacher by Tuesday 11th of March.
