Year Three - Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

Yesterday the students excitedly cheered on their peers receiving ribbons for their athletics day. They waited with anticipation for the scores so far. With the teams in first and second only being 1 point a way. It was a delight to see the students enjoy the day and apply themselves to all the challenges. This is a running tally that will be added to throughout the year.

The scores are here:

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week, students will continue exploring how we can actively live out our faith during Lent and Easter. They will reflect on the themes of pilgrimage, service, and preparation, connecting these to their own daily actions. Through the example of St. Joseph, they will consider how his faithfulness and journey relate to our own faith journeys. As we approach St. Joseph’s Feast Day, students will also reflect on its significance and its connection to our Jubilee Year celebrations.

English Focus

Next week, students will build their spelling skills by exploring the long vowel sound /ū/ and its homophones. In handwriting, they will focus on forming anticlockwise letters correctly and improving their typing accuracy. In grammar, they will learn how to turn sentence fragments into complete sentences.

During reading, students will engage with our class novel Matilda, answering questions and expanding their vocabulary. They will also work on reading fluency by practicing accuracy, speed, and expression.

In writing, students will develop their persuasive writing skills by planning and drafting strong body and concluding paragraphs. They will use high modality language to persuade and practice proofreading and editing their work.

Mathematics Focus

Next week, students will focus on building their multiplication and division skills. They will learn and practice division facts for 10, 5, 3, and 4, as well as multiplication facts for 3 and 4. Additionally, they will explore patterns in the multiples of 5 and 10 to strengthen their number sense. Through engaging activities and practice, students will develop confidence in recalling these important number facts.

Auslan Focus

Next week, students will explore how some verb signs in Auslan can incorporate pronouns and directional movement. They will practice changing the location and direction of signs to show who is doing an action and what they are referring to. Through fun activities like "Pass the Sign," "Telephone Game," and "Four Corners," students will develop their skills in using signs like look, listen, come here, and go there in context. They will also reflect on how Auslan helps us communicate effectively in different situations.

This week's highlights...

Community meeting On Wednesday means watching the Assembly together, practicing songs for the upcoming Mass on March 19th. Celebrating birthdays in the community and certificates given for Safety, Respect and Learning.

This week was Ash Wednesday, our Grade 3 students participated reverently in receiving ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross, a meaningful symbol of repentance and preparation for Lent. They have thoughtfully made their Lenten promises, reflecting on ways they can show kindness, patience, and generosity during this sacred season. Through class discussions, they have explored how their actions can help them prepare for Jesus' sacrifice and deepen their understanding of Lent’s significance.

Reminders

Students are encouraged to read each night. They are welcome to take the books from the class and community library. We also encourage visiting the local library and selecting books they enjoy reading.
