My Lord and My God

On behalf of the staff at St. Thomas the Apostle, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your support on Monday 3rd March, which allowed us to fully honour and celebrate the vibrant life of our beloved Sr Julie. It was a truly beautiful and joyful ceremony.

We understand that making alternate arrangements for your children's care on short notice was not easy, and we truly appreciate your flexibility and generosity. Your willingness to do so speaks volumes about the strength of our school community—one that is connected, supportive, and united in spirit.

Thank you for your kindness and for living out the Gospel values of love, compassion, and community that are at the heart of our faith.

Composting Project @ St Thomas the Apostle PS

Very soon, we will be embarking on a new composting project at our school. At St Thomas the Apostle, we are listening to the leadership of Pope Francis, with regard to the call to be good stewards of our earthly home.

Composting food waste aligns with Catholic Social Teaching by promoting environmental stewardship, one of the key principles of caring for God’s creation. By reducing waste and enhancing soil health, composting supports sustainability, which is integral to the Church’s call to protect the planet for future generations. Additionally, it reflects the principle of solidarity, as it encourages individuals and communities to work together for the common good, addressing environmental degradation and poverty. Composting also aligns with the dignity of work, as it empowers people to take responsibility for their environment and promotes a just and healthy world.

Pope Francis stresses the importance of a "culture of care," which includes being mindful of how we use resources and recognising the interconnectedness of all life. He calls for a shift toward sustainable lifestyles that prioritize the common good, the poor, and the environment. Composting can be seen as a small yet meaningful way to embody these principles, as it reduces landfill waste, returns nutrients to the soil, and fosters a more sustainable, just approach to resource use.

To help us get the project up and running, we are asking families to donate 5L buckets - buckets with lids. We'd love the kind of buckets that are typically used to contain yoghurt or other similar products. They need to have a lid that seals well. See below for ideas of what we need...
