Year Five - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families, 

This week we participated in a Prayer Service for Ash Wednesday. Students participated reverently and received the ashes on their foreheads to represent their repentance, humility, and acknowledgment of their mortality. The ashes serve as a visible sign of turning away from sin and turning toward God in preparation for the season of Lent.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

Next week students will begin to dwell into inquiry statement, "We weren't made for Comfort, we were made for Greatness" through the lens of Lent.

English Focus

Students will continue reading and responding to our class novel, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo next week. They will use themes from the novel to create new complex sentences. And they will start to work on the body paragraphs to  write their persuasive text.

Mathematics Focus

Next week, students will begin to calculate the perimeter of rectangles using a formula, solve problems, and investigate connections between perimeter and area.

Auslan Focus

In Auslan, students will learn some verb signs including "look", "listen", "come" and "go". They will also learn how to change the meaning of a non-body anchored sign by modifying the movement of a sign such as "look".

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus

Students will learn about personal and cultural strengths. They will understand respect, rights and responsibility, and the ways that Australians can ‘walk together’ as they respect different cultures.
