Visual Arts

Welcome, Year 7 artists! This term, they have an exciting unit that will help students to develop fundamental drawing skills while exploring the fascinating history of drawing.

In class students have been learning how to observe and sketch objects with accuracy and creativity. Through different techniques, such as contour drawing, shading, and perspective, they have begun to see the world like an artist—where every object holds a story waiting to be captured on paper.

Throughout the term, students will experiment with different drawing materials, from pencil to charcoal, oil pastel and watercolour and study how artists from different periods used drawing in their work. By the end of the unit, they will have a portfolio of studies that showcase their growing skills and artistic confidence. Happy drawing year 7!

This year has seen an exciting start to the year with Year 12 Visual Arts students progressing with their HSC Body of Works. Artworks are already showing hints of sophisticated ideas such as cultural identity, political issues in our world, and personal expressions of self. Each student is developing and exploring technical skills in their chosen expressive forms from drawing and painting to printmaking and sculpture.

Students in Year 12 are welcome to attend Art After Hours - Tuesday afternoons in the art rooms where students are encouraged to work on their projects.

Year 11 has commenced the year by exploring the history of art through portraiture. They will be completing an encapsulating series of portraits of a significant person in their life. Through the next term they will investigate the different forms of drawing, painting, mixed media, graphic imaging and photography. Stay tuned for more to come.
