It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the term. Year 7 overall are settling well into the College and are hopefully enjoying their start to the year. We have some wonderful opportunities in the coming weeks to really get Year 7 involved in our school community.
Next week we will be asking for Year 7 volunteers to help bake a wide variety of green goods to raise money for Caritas. Information will be shared with Year 7 shortly. I am sure many of our Year 7s will happily get involved.
Thank you to everyone who has completed the information for our camp in April. Further details and reminders will be shared later in the month.
A big thank you to the 24 students who helped on the day. We had many parents and prospective students impressed with the maturity and the enthusiasm of our students. It’s amazing that our new students were so keen to share their school experience with others so early in the year. Well done to everyone who helped.
This week, our Year 7 and 8 students had the valuable opportunity to hear from Amy from Headspace Miranda, who delivered an engaging and insightful talk on positive relationships and bullying. The session emphasised the importance of respect, kindness, and communication in building strong friendships and supportive peer networks.
Students explored strategies for identifying unhealthy relationship patterns, managing conflicts in a constructive way, and seeking help when needed. A key takeaway was understanding that everyone deserves to feel safe and valued, whether in friendships, at school, or online.
As young people navigate friendships and social challenges, parents can help by:
✔ Encouraging open conversations – Create a safe space for your child to talk about their experiences and feelings.
✔ Helping them set boundaries – Teach them how to recognise and address disrespectful behavior.
✔ Building resilience – Reinforce self-confidence and problem-solving skills to help them manage conflicts.
✔ Monitoring online interactions – Discuss safe and respectful online behavior and encourage healthy screen habits.
If your child needs support or you’d like more information, these services can help:
🔹 Headspace – Mental health support and guidance for young people (www.headspace.org.au)
🔹 Bullying. No Way! – Information on school bullying and how to respond (www.bullyingnoway.gov.au)
🔹 eSafety Commissioner – Online safety resources for young people and parents (www.esafety.gov.au)
🔹 Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) – 24/7 support for young people
We encourage students and families to continue these conversations at home and reach out if they need further support. Let’s work together to create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all!
